Does anyone know where I can find a 20gig portable media player that supports DivX for around 200$??
I've tried using google, but the closest thing I can find is a Archos Gemini for 350$

Well, my phone does :) <4oz and makes a nice MP3 player too. Over 4 hours playtime tested at the casino last week.

iRiver H320 supports AVI, with free video converters and other open-source software everywhere, if that interests you.
Also check out the Cowon iAudio X5, that may be what you want too.
Both are much better than the iPod for the same or less price.

All I can say Palimax is wow! I thought I had seen it all when my cell phone came with a 1 megapixel camera and built in flash about a year and a half ago. Hehe. I will definitely check that phone out when my plan expires in about 4 months!
Cados, I looked at a few sites for the Iriver (mainly mysticrivers forums). Is flashing the firmware difficult? Also, I have an external harddrive with about 300 DivX movies on it. Will I be able to convert those movies to whatever format the Iriver uses? Or do I need to RIP the movies agian into .VOB and then convert?

Saragon -
Go to this site http://iriverter.sourceforge.net/ and download iRiverter 0.11. Then try to convert one of your existing DivX files with it and see if it works (by default it copies and then converts). With this program you can convert individual files, whole video directories, or straight from DVD. No manual .vob to .avi needed (though you can go that route).
If not, try PocketDivXEncoder @ http://divx.ppccool.com/ .
The one complaint some have about the H300's or the X5's video capability is that sometimes the audio is a little uneven with the video, usually behind it a second or two, though iRiverter allows you to automatically set a stable rate or manual rate if you experiment to find the best fit.
Both programs are freeware.. iRiverter was programmed by a MisticRiver member.

Well, I found an RCA Lyra rd 2870 20GIG media player for 218$. Its got a bigger screen than the Iriver h320, and the price is right. I'm only using it for video anyways. I've already got a 20gig mp3 player.
Those cell phones definitely look hot though!
thanks for the help everyone.

It's not in your price range but I got a 40gig iPod for $299 at Christmas. I <3 it.

I already have a 20gig mp3 player, I was looking for a video player. Cados suggested the Iriver H320, but after some research, It is just an mp3 player, that people have developed a firmware update that allows you to watch movies. Also the screen was a little small for my taste.
My friend swears by Ipods, she started with a 5gig, and then bought a Ipod photo. Do you have to download the music from the Ipod online store? Or can you load Mp3s on them now?

You've always been able to load MP3s on iPods. The iTunes Music Store wasn't released until 2003, with the 3rd Gen iPods -- almost 2 years after the first iPod was released.
Just rip your CDs and plop 'em into your iTunes library (or whatever software you're using to manage it) and you're more or less done.
(Approx 12% of the songs in my iTunes library - 312 songs - are purchased from iTMS. The remaining 2200 or so are ripped from my CDs.)

yes what Buad said.
though I prefer using iTunes for my library, you literall put the CD in and it the software does the rest.

I prefer the UMD drag n' drop capability of iAudio and iRiver players. Literally an external hard drive with no software to fuss with. Also the video capability on iRiver H300s is an official feature, just not for US players. A simple update to international firmware gives US models USB-on-the-go and video.
My brother uses an iPod 20gig 4-gen. and he gets along well with iTunes.. but software dependence in this case is not my thing.
