Trying to avoid learning anything more about it than I've already read. Less than 2 weeks now.

Warning, that link ruins a lot of the mystery. Best to not click it.

ruins the mystery? If you're talking about that monster image at the bottom... it's someone's guess at what it'll look like.

Oh, I didn't read the whole way down for fear of it being the actual monster :)

I was listening to a morning talk show on Wednesday and they were talking about Cloverfield. They had gone to a sneak preview on Tuesday night. I changed the channel pretty quick, cause I don't really want to know anything about the movie.. BUT... they did say a couple things that I think its good to know going in to the movie.
Stop reading here if you want to know absoulutely nothing about this movie. What I'm going to say has nothing to do with the content of the movie (per se)... just what kind of movie it is...
Ok, first, some of this stuff is probably pretty common knowledge. I didn't know it, though, so I figure there's probably other people who don't.
So they were saying that some people were leaving the movie dissapointed because they were expecting something else. If you're expecting a typical Hollywood giant-monster movie... prepare to be dissapointed. The movie is about the people that it follows. Its a "different take" on monster movies, seeing it from the perspective of regular people the entire time, not heros fighting the monster / figuring out how to get rid of it, etc. Its filmed like Blair Witch, so you pretty much see the whole thing through a view-finder. It may be more along the lines of a horror than your traditional giant-monster movie. I think going in knowing this will make the movie more enjoyable.
I'm seeing it tongiht.

I loved it... Was a mix between War of the Worlds and Blair Witch :)
Better then both movies though, and still TONS of questions at the end... damn you JJ Abrahms.

This movie sucked. The monster was dumb looking and the bouncing camera was annoying as shit. I want my money back.
Huge disappointment.

It wasn't that bad... Did you guys see the falling thing in the last scene? On the ferris wheel?

They wanted the monster to look like nothing you'd seen before... and, for me at least it was. I enjoyed the movie.
SPOILER ALERT!
It seemed like most people in the theater I was in were dissapointed in the ending. To anyone who is, you should have seen it coming. I mean, at the beginning of the film the "file information" shows that the media was "found" in Central Park. While there were ways to have them survive but lose the camera, you should have been ready for it to happen either way.

SPOILER ALERT *****************************
There is a prediction going around that a Japanese company (fake, made up, and a website made for them in real life) was responsible for drilling and opening up a chasm that released a beast that had been under the ocean floor. The reason for the drilling being for a Slushy company called Slusho(also fake, made up, with a real website made for it) that uses ingredients from the ocean floor that actually can make you grow.
2 and 2 together = giant sea creature ate the ingredients on ocean floor, grew and got stuck.

Tagruato the company also drills near Hiroshima... (another crazy hint at monsters origins)
The thing falling from the sky could have been an alien that ends up ingesting the ingredient... or a satelite for the company... Dunno that much, but there is an entire backstory on the internet about it... Checkout...

Yep, first posted about the slusho stuff way back in this (http://ayonae.ro/showthread.php?t=9790) thread. Finally saw it tonight and loved it. I knew it was shaky-cam going in, and given the approach taken with this film, it couldn't be anything but. The monster was interesting, enormous but different from the kaiju influenced stuff of the past.
***SPOILER***
Pity most of the cast died at the end, but they were beautiful endings. Very well executed film all around, and I wager the 'making of' will be fascinating. Now I just want to find out what the whisper at the end of the credits said.

**SPOILER**
Supposedly when played backward it says "I'm still alive".
Whether that means the monster or the guy, who knows.

Forward it's supposed to sound like, "Help us," implying perhaps that Rob and Beth still live. Backwards I read it as sounding like, "It's still alive," meaning 'Clover' is still chugging along.

How would it be played it in reverse in the movie theatre?
Thormir

People who've captured the segment manipulated it at home; the theatre hasn't played it backwards.

I remember hearing "It's still alive" in the theatre though...

Maybe you hear backwards? Hehe. I didn't hear it myself... though I typically stay to the end of the credits, someone I was giving a ride to needed to get home so we took off right at the end.

SPOILERS!!!
I LOVED the movie until the last 2 minutes. They just left it at them dying under a bridge in Central Park form the Hammer Down. The only shread of "oh cool" was after that, they cut to them on the Feriss Wheel and you see something big splash down in the harbor behind them.
But seriously if they woul of jsut shown like Lily being interviewed aftewards or a new slcip of the aftermath i would of been happy.

Aftermaths are for sequels. ;)
The only thing that bugged me [SPOILER...] was how they didn't notice the monster in the park despite all their running about after getting out of the copter. Minor quibble, really.

Their is a rumor of a sequal, being told from another camera, that was on the bridge with them.

Just saw it tonight. Maybe you had to see it right at the peak of the hype to enjoy it or something. I found it terribly boring and predictable.
Really let me down, after I went to great lengths to avoid spoilers all this time.

Sounds like the Blair Witch Project.
If you saw it within the first few days, it was awesome. But after that? It was boring as hell. Who knows? Maybe it has an expiry date....like milk!

I finally saw this last night.
I thought it was entertaining, the monster looked silly imo. The ending was hokey too. It wasn't scarey to me at all except the part in the tunnel where those things were on the cieling that freaked me out but I wasn't scared at all during the movie which kind of a let down :(
Just watched this last night...... A waste of 10 hours......... or it seemed like 10 hours to me.....
