Go to Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device manager. There you can look at what hardware components your PC has.
CoD 4 owns!!!

Start > Run
Type DXDiag, click OK
The first screen will show you all the stats on your system.
The "Display" tab will show you what Vid card you're running.
I just upgraded my system for CoD4. Running a Core2Duo E8400, NForce 750i mobo, 4 gb DDR2 800 (Vista x64), and a GeForce 8800 GTS 512mb. Runs nice.
Seems I have a GeForce 7900 and 2.4gig ram.
That may be my problem.

Actually Bise that should be enough to run CoD 4 well enough.
Check the recommended specs on the box or website to be sure though.

Its not a question of if it will "run", its if it will run how you want it to run hehe.
I'm so used to playing games in 1900 x 1200 now, when I have to go to a lower resolution it irks me. You really have an advantage in online games with more visable. WoW, for instance... I don't have any custom UI add-ons, and I have all of my action bars up and full and at a size that they're easily click-able and still have plenty of space.
I wanted to be sure I could play CoD4 at 1900 x 1200, so I upgraded. I was running an AMD X2 3800+, NForce 570 MB, 4GB DDR 800 (kept the same ram for my new system) and a GeForce 7900gt. One of my biggest problems was going to be the processor, but I decided rather than just upgrade the MoBo and processor, I'd get a new vid card too. All said I paid $600 for the upgrade (used my old case, PS, RAM, DVD burner). I got my processor at Fry's.. it was funny. It was $225 for the processor alone (retail, w/fan), or $219 with a PoS mobo. Hmm.. hehe. So now I'm going to try to sell the mobo on eBay for ~$20 or so and get some money back =D.
If you're looking for deals, Bise, I suggest keeping an eye on edealinfo.com. You can get some really good deals if you're patient (and if you don't mind mail-in-rebates). Also, search the Hot Deals forum on fatwallet.com. Make sure you know what the items go for normally so that you can spot a good deal. I think I paid $220 after tax and shipping for my 8800 GTS 512. Not phenominal, but still not bad. I didn't have time to wait for a killer deal.
As to Video cards, though, you'd be well served by a 8800gt 512. They're getting into the $150 - $175 range now that the 9x00 series is out and they're almost as good as the GTS 512 (usually only a couple FPS difference).
P.S. I consider my system a "budget" gamer's box. I can play crysis (DLed the demo to try it out), but the only resolution it ran smoothly at was 12xx X 7xx... still looks nice, though.
The game runs fine when Im not on line and turn everything off. I think it looks great.
I may be able to turn some stuff off I haven't found yet.
