I've heard stories like this more and more lately. I can't understand how something like this should be allowed to happen, when it was a baseless, anonymous tip. If there were an actual parental problem, surely the doctors would have mentioned it.
Just another consequence of the nanny-state, I guess. Socialism rocks!

This is unreal. I would go after someone with a weapon if this happened to me.

A family that spends $350,000 to get their daughter back deserves the benefit of doubt.

The unreal part is the part where it says nothing could be proven, but it would now be too 'traumatic' to return the child to her rightful parents. Really? Why didn't they think about that before they took the child away and kept the child away for years? What about how traumatic this has been to the biological parents?
This is one of the most ridiculous articles I've ever read. I'm still pissed off about it, this long after reading it. It's just crazy that this could happen to any of us that have children. Children naturally lose a little bit of body weight after birth. It happened with our daughter when she was born (she lost 8 ounces), and the doctors told us not to worry about it at all because it was normal. Now, a different parent loses their child for something that's completely normal.
I am outraged.

But then the story would have been about the "gun wielding maniac" rather than the state coming in and seizing the child....
Has a bit of "Damned if you do, damned if you don't" to it.....

I have my own story about CPS.
Back in 1998 my wife suddenly died. We had four children who at the time were 3, 4, 7 and 10. Our oldest child was however not my biological child but I had raised him almost since birth so he knew no other Dad but me.
My wifes parents, who were obviously extremely distraught over the death of their daughter (lots of guilt on their part) would constantly hammer me about the fact that my son was in fact "not yours" as they would say.
My wife and I, mistake or not, had not ever told him that I was not his biological father, we just felt it was something he didn't need to know at that time (his father was a bum, never saw him or supported him)
So after my wifes death her parents felt it was necessary to not only tell him I was not his "father" but also to file for custody of him. As part of their tactics to win custody they decided that they would call CPS and report me for the following: Child Neglect, Child Abuse, and all sort of other neat things. They reported me at least 15 times as each time I was found to be doing nothing wrong but as the woman at CPS explained they were required to open an investigation for every report they received and each investigation had to be open for a minimum of 30 days.
Needless to say they were not granted custody of my son, however it cost me over $20,000.00 to fight the custody battle. CPS did go to court with me on my side and testified against my wifes parents.
So, I really feel for these parents and something needs to be done with the discretionary aspect of the supervisors decisions that were made in the lemonade case but from my own experience, at least some CPS investigators at least here in PA are on the ball.
