When I told my son about this story he thought I was full of it as well.

Guess rubber raft pirates with 2nd hand missiles have trouble adjusting to speed differences. Think it could be due to the patch, the wooden leg or the nasty parrot on his shoulder?

aaarrrrggghhhhhh and avast matey!!

Malse and I were joking about what pathetic "pirates" these guys must have been too, but then I read one of the articles more closely. It turns out, they're the same group that recently held that cruise liner hostage for 100 days. That can't be too easy.

25' inflatable boats a "100 miles off the coast"...pretty gutsy move just in itself.

There's good news. This will decrease global warming.

"We had no idea that this ship could move as fast as it did and (the captain) did his best to run down the pirates."

25 foot inflatible boat vs. 10,000 cruise liner

Someone needed to rethink that venture.

Thanks :)

We at the Chruch of The Flying Spaghetti Monster (http://www.venganza.org/) know the key roll that pirates play in global warming.

Well I always knew pirates > ninjas, but now with this new tidbit we can save the world from melting and turning into Water World.

The Global Warming vs Pirates graph = priceless. I spend a couple of weeks every semester with my majors' students working on critically reading scientific papers, and one of the things we look at is correlation vs causation. Usually I give them an assignment where they're supposed to think about three different graphs which were thrown together in Mc Paper (USA Today) a few years ago in a correlation/causation fallacy, but this spring I think Global Warming vs Pirates is going to make it into the curriculum :). Thanks for posting that!

I ordered a David being 'Touched by His Noodly Appendage' for my office as well :).

Warm regards,
Nydia

Check out Freakonomics for some great examples and thoughts on that subject.

I've been toying with several shirts from those guys. I think I'm going with a FSM logo on the front with a <church> <Kansas> , <my ass> on the back.

Maybe those pirates were trying to act like the Others from 'Lost', and they mistakenly thought the cruise liner was similar to a raft, until they got up close and personal. But being the adventurous bunch they are they gave it the ole college try.

That little black thing around the top of the hull is rubber! I don't think your average reporter even knows what materials make up their kids bath-tub toy boats, much less what fibreglass and other composites are.
