So with what happen in Spain just prior to the elections. Anyone think the U.S. Is in danger of having the same thing happen? It would seem to me the terrorist took the election as a victory so why not try the same thing here?

Thoughts?

If thats the case why havent the terriorst been attacking all along. I think its a lot harder these days and especially in the US for an attack to occur...not impossible but they have many reasons to continually attack us if they could.

I was actually just talking about this same subject the other night with some friends and the common concensus was, 'Let em try'.

Now, I realize that my little group is most likely not a fair representation of the average American citizen, most of my friends are prior military or come from military families. But I feel that if some terrorist orgainizations do try some shennanigans before the elections here in the US, they are just going to polarize more people to taking a harder stand against them.

Many TO's (terrorist organizations) have already begun to burn the candle at both ends. By antagonizing bothe the Americans and various the rest of the nations of the world, theyre just getting more and more people pissed off at them. Resulting in governments from multiple countries working more closely together to put a bullet through the heads. If they would just focus on one country, say the US for example, then the rest of the world could at least say "Look, it sucks to be an American. If you had just stayed out of it like we did, you wouldnt have all these people trying to plant bombs on your trains or in busy shopping centers.".

Instead, by pissing everyone off, they're just making themselves a bigger target for people with larger guns. It seems self defeating to me.

Giena,

The question is, what is their goal.
Terrorists - in long term - depend on a vast mass of people. They usually don't have serious income (except kidnaps), just some from drugs, smuggling, weapon-trading. They have no production on their own, they can not defend themself in a face to face fight. Terrorism need support, thats how they can continue operating. they need morale support, they need money, they need equipment.

Do you see the point here? If we attack them with more effort (if there is any more effort can be done by US) we have better chance to get them, but they gonna have stronger support among the muslims, they will recieve more help, and they have the ideology to ensure this.

Most likely they do not really care what weapon we are hunting for them with. Their only chance is to hide, because they do not have serious military power this time (until they can take over a country, or some warlords in afghanistan start support them openly again). So its a damn good question if acting in the US again is in their current focus or not.

Personally, I think they have two options The 'moral victory' means much for them (while everyone knows thats not a victory militarily, ideologically, or in economy), and they will risk an action in US.

Tho another strategy of their's might be to continue pushing US and co. in Iraq, and paralelly act in Europe (where they have much better chances for success) in order cause confusion and deeper political trouble between US and whole Europe, between US and and his current allies, and inside allied countries, so our governments - like in Spain - falls.

The 2 possibilities do not exclude each other of course, but i do not think they have the power for both at the same time.
Either way we can predict intensive terrorist activity (except of course if police/secret services can do something useful this time)

Your thinking is wrong in some way:

'Let em try'.

when they try, they have the initiative. Too much advantage to let them have this. They must be stopped sooner and be prepared.

'say the US for example, then the rest of the world could at least say "Look, it sucks to be an American. If you had just stayed out of it like we did, you wouldnt have all these people trying to plant bombs on your trains or in busy shopping centers.".'

you mean it was a mistake to get on the boat? :) j/k.
Politically focusing only on the US will not be unresponded by the world, at least not by Europe. They will never turn Russia and China against themselve tho (those 2 have their own trouble).
However any action in the US makes Europe's population 95% US-symphatizan. Noone who matters in Europe ever said America deserved what happened, or deserves more, or was neutral to the attacks. Thats were like 5pct support parties who is at the same level where terrorists are. We, here know we are in the same boat. It's not only US' problem it is Europe's problem also, and this was never a question. The only difference between the opinions was about iraq, but this is not the topic here :)

If there were no election over there this year, i would be sure their focus would be Europe, and US targets outside your homeland, because this is the way they win more with less risk. But the election makes this unpredictable (for me)

Edit: some spelling and grammar mistakes, but not all of them
