Didn't see any posts about this game....DC Universe Online..... a new MMO by SOE and DC coming soon.

Anyone know much about it? :)

It LOOKS good, and I've read some articles that state they seem to be heading the right way with extended boss battle endings in quests. Also, you can play the icons too. BE Batman, etc.

It does look good.
And I bet it's fun. :)
I may be in the F&F phase.

S.O.E. should I say anymore, look at what they have done to other games that were good, and games that should of been better

I am in the beta, i actually LOVE it. It could still be the shiney new game feel but i have fought along side Superman and the Flash. Help Zatanna out, and pvp'd as Robin in a legends arena. This maybe SOE's redemption.

To add, if you are a DC fan this game has AWESOME references, landmarks, villians, side characters they really used a lot of the DC Universe.

Favorite moment so far was fighting with the Teen Titans.

Booster Gold also makes a couple funny apperances so far.

Huh?

The costume designer isnt as robust as City of Heroes but it has decent looks. A lot of people are hoping for more options overall, but part of the game is unlocking costume designs via the gear you get.

Gear gives you stats and the best part is you can have your character look like their original design or the design of any gear they have ever looted. There is quite a few gear slots, 10ish or so, and even at early levels you are forced to make choices on which stats you want to sacrifice for others.

The game is primarily quest driven. You get very minimal xp from actually "killing" mobs, mostly through the quests. The quests are pretty cookie cutter. Kill 5 of X, Save 3 citizens, disable X machine. You do 5-9 quests in a story line, which has voiceovers for the NPC's which is nice, then you end up fighting a boss typcially with the NPC you been working with, (Flash, Zatanna, Superman, Teen Titans). The boss always drops a good peice of gears, uses same green, blue, purple color system for gear quality as WoW.

The attack system is diablo and mortal combat had a baby. Your weapon power is all combos based on left and right mouse clicks. For example my favorite combo with my hand blast is Right Click Hold x 2 and then Left Click quickly 3 times. You also have powers which kinda like EQ you can only have 7 on your bar even though at higher levels you will have more than 7 powers.

The powers are tree based, and each power set has two subsets for you to mix and match or to focus on. Your power set determines if you control, heal or damage. At level 10 you get the ability to focus into those roles and your powers have different abilities based on your role. You can switch between your two rolls. You cannot be all three Damage, Control and Heal. As of this point there isnt a tank. I havent played with other people a lot so can't speak to group dynamics much.

Travel in this game is negated, at level 1 you get Flight, Hyper Speed, or Acrobatics (think spider man) all of which are quick and effective means to get you through metropolis.

If you guys have any questions let me know.

So it's a one player game? I didn't understand the MMO acronym. MMORPG isn't the same thing? Don't ever want an obligation type of game like EQ again...Not that I'm done with EQ, but I'm on the fence!

I'm hoping this does well, RadarX is the CM. I've been in the beta since friends and family but honestly I stopped playing due to lack of time. It has come a long way though and if I was looking for something to fart around in I'd play it but WOW consumes too much time as it is :p

MMO= Massive Multiplayer Online

I may quit WoW for this. I can't find a good guild that wants to run heroics and lightly raid, i can only find hardcore or guilds that think heroics are too hard and dont want to do anything but pvp...

Come join us on Destromath... Small guild made up of mostly rl friends and we are building up our ranks for 10m raiding. In the mean time we do heroics, but it is very casual and nowhere near hardcore.

Basically we have 2 nights a week our guys can really all get together and for now its for heroics, and as we gear up it will be for raiding and pvp.

Destromath Horde ;)

Or join us, we raid 2x a week (Wed and Thurs) and then the rest of the week run heroics or try to form alt raids/pug raids.....granted that may stop since you can only do either 10m or 25m now :( poooooo

Still we're pretty active for casuals but not hardcore in any sense.

I've enjoyed testing DCUO and find it very polished. I like most of the changes they've made over the last month, but I'm finding the questing system repetitive after playing a few characters (though not so mind-numbing as CoH back in the day). There are some great voices in the game, the cut scenes are excellent, and fighting alongside the 'name' heroes is a lot of fun.

The Damsel in Distress quest in Un'Goro is hilarious when you retreive a blood elf male's purse for him...haha

I suggest checking it out http://www.wowhead.com/quest=24705

I love the quest writers in WOW :)

Also nazi goblins cracked me up the whole way thru uldum as did Harrison Jones! lol...good stuff and very entertaining.

So it is a MMO but all of your collective recounts sugest solo play. How often does one team up, etc.?

Greystone Thorngage
12-30-2010, 07:06 PM
i will be teaming up a lot more out of beta, because my friends who arent in beta will be in the game.

There are certain heroes and villains that you receive bounties for as you level, and they are group encounters at the level you receive the bounty. You can receive decent rewards and xp for bringing them down, so they're worth doing at the appropriate level.

There is a lot of mission based content, much of it PvP, available, none of which I've gotten into. Some upper level missions are difficult solo and worth bringing a friend to. And if you're on a PvP server, having friends nearby is a good idea.

But one can solo missions and do collections, possibly to max level (I haven't bothered to get there yet).

AFAIK a fair number of the Prism folks are going to try it out. I'm with the bunch that is gonna wait a month or two and see if it fizzles fast (see: Vanguard, Shadowbane, Champions Online, Star Trek Online, Warhammer Online, etc.)

Not picking it up, myself. I enjoyed beta, but by the end of it I was feeling bored. If Rifts didn't seem so stuck on quest hubs instead of a living world I might buy it (some Prism folk are giving it a whirl), but it didn't quite make the cut either.

Greystone Thorngage

I still love it. I hit thirty with about 40 hours invested.

30 is where the game really begins IMO. You still have quests/missions but the game is about Alerts and Raids. I have yet to do a raid, but the Alerts on Hard are much fun and a true challenge and it is when Roles really come into effect.

I am Ice/Hand Blaster which is tons of fun and I find tanking.

Just hit 30 this morning!!!

I signed up for the legends pricing plan... 3 months for 29.99.... Awesome rate!

I am playing on the Server - "Death & Glory" Which is the highest population server and is a pvp server.

Lots of world pvp action and a blast to play on this server as a hero. We are outnumbered by the villains but its perfect if you like beating people against all odds!
