I can't tell if these guys are putting on an act or not, but it doesn't really matter, I like the tunes this South African rap group make.
Sorry if this is old news, but I just saw them for the first time the other day.

This video is unique in that it's the verses that are awesome while the refrain is just annoying. Stick with it to .28 to hear the first verse..or just start from there.

Not sure what to make of that. interesting enough to make someone who is not a rap/hip-hop fan to watch all of the above links though. seems sort of groundbreaking dare i say.
and..
that girl is really strange and bizarre yet so sexy and attractive in a weird trailer trash manner.

That is the usual reaction to these guys. It certainly was mine. That and I really liked her voice, and despite wanting to hate on their boasts, I actually liked watching them dance and the imagery they use. The front man, Ninja, is a behind the scenes complete geek...to the point that his big tattoo on his left arm is a fairy forest scene that he's completely embarrassed about. The chick is purported to be an albino black woman, but that's disputed (I think she's just a Maria Carey white woman...see them dark roots in the platinum mullet?). I think there's two djs? one wearing the ferengi mask and the other looks like a white trash cholo wannabe.

As Americans we keep thinking they mean the same things we mean when they use the words they say, but being from South Africa, all the connotations are tweaked. "Gangsta" just being a clothing style is the biggest thing I notice. Them using the District 9 claw in another video is paying homage to what they think of as one of the three things SA is known for around the world (Nelson Mandella, District 9, and themselves). I like the SA style graffiti in at least three of the videos, but couldn't tell you whether it's authentic SA style or just something they're using to mess with the rest of the world. One thing that they DO use and abuse is the way that National Geographic has desensitized western eyes to African sexual imagery, so that they can get away with stuff and have the local censors let it go because it's "authentic African art". Honestly I don't know if they are actually like this or just playing the parts of people who are like this, whatever, the act is good and draws me in.

I don't know why I like 'em, I just do. They are a good shock to the system.
