All I can say is....

GO WATCH THIS MOVIE! FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD, GO RIGHT NOW!!!

I can't believe I almost went to see GI Joe instead of this. Folks, do yourself a favor and watch this!

I can't believe that for the first time I truly found myself going AGAINST the humans in an alien flick! Amazing story!

Good stuff. Watch for some wanton abuse of a pig at around 98 minutes.

Yeah, pretty good. Felt a little too much like a setup for District 10 though.

Saw it last night and concur this was good stuff. It was a little slow early on but picked up speed and never stopped.

My girlfriend had a bit of trouble with how gruesome it was, perhaps a bit over the top at times. Other than that, I thought it was pretty spectacular.

Enjoyed it. Not sure how much of a fan I am of the "reality" filming style, but overall a good movie.

Yeah, that kinda bothered me at points too - it really was over the top. The Office captures the documentary genre with greater subletly, though overall they did a great job.

Please tell me this doesn't mean shaky cam.

Not as bad as Cloverfield or anything. Enough that it's annoying at times though.

Not as bad as Cloverfield, but there were a couple times where the camera gets "hit" that just ended up being "wtf?"

Oddly enough that didn't bother me that much, it seemed more like "news footage" than reality type stuff to me. It was definitely gory and sometimes the gore was a bit surprising but still entertaining.

Here's the short it is based on, if anyone's interested.

Shaky cam has never really bothered me all that much. I notice it at first, but apparently I have some switch in my brain that just lets me accept it. I didn't even mind it in Cloverfield, though I do have to admit that I noticed it more in that film than any other.

As to gore... did you really go into a movie that's sole reasons for being R was "Gory Violence" and language and expect different? Expecting it, it didn't surprise me. I was actually expecting it to get worse. I'm no fan of gore, mind you, but the gore in this movie didn't bother me as much as I thought it would.

The original "Shakey movie cam" was in Blair Witch if memory serves me correctly. Insofar as gore is concerned, was it worse than "Starship Troopers"? Or The Fly 2?

If we're gonna credit the "shaky cam" to anyone it really should be the film that Blair Witch all but copied shot for shot.

Starship Troopers wasn't nearly as gorey, that was more hokey than gorey if I remember correctly. However, my girlfriend deeply apologizes to Akom for having not read the reasoning behind the Motion Picture Association of America's film rating, and for any inconvenience it caused him. I will personally see to it she never makes this mistake again.

Accepted. ; p

I do realize that not everyone pays attention to why a film is given a particular rating. I, personally, don't usually. But I did see a preview for District 9 and at the end it either said on screen or the announcer said (don't remember) rated R for gory violence and something about language. I took note of that and was surprised since most R's these days have a laundry list of reasons the movie was R. My point being: I didn't go out of my way to find out why it was R, it happened incidentally. If you went into the movie never having seen a preview, knowing only that it was R, I could see the gore being a shock, sure.

One thing I LOVED is that they changed the power suit in the movie so that it looked like the aliens rather than like the humanoid suits used in the short...that they had a derogatory name for the aliens...just so many small touches that kicked ass in it.

What was so gory about it? The only part where I was like ewwwwww was when the mech did something funky to the nigerian tribal leader's brain by shooting something inside it and then ripping him open. That was what I would consider the "worst" thing but otherwise it's a sci fi movie and I expected freaky shit.

It wasn't so bad that I wouldn't consider watching it again, real life stuff makes my stomach churn moreso than fiction/fantasy stuff. The opening credits of TrueBlood where the fox rots and the maggots crawl out makes me nauseated to the point of me turning my head for that part. I won't watch it and just listen for the music to know when it's ok to look. To me that is more gory than seeing an alien gun vaporize things that aren't real. The gore was surprising at times but entertaining.

Caught this yesterday, thought it was a very cool piece of cinema. I preferred the more sociological/symbolical hour than the action/sci-fi second, but it was definately a great flick.
