The South Asian tsunami is one of the most devastating natural disasters in years, with millions left homeless and in desperate need of aid. Many of us will never understand the suffering that many victims are experiencing. To put this in perspective, the death toll of the disaster is several times more than 9/11's death count (both very saddening events).

To that end, many of us can help by providing financial assistance to the affected victims. Listed below are some agencies that graciously need your assistance:

Action Against Hunger (https://secure2.convio.net/aah/site/Donation?ACTION=SHOW_DONATION_OPTIONS&CAMPAIGN_ID=1281)
American Jewish World Service (http://www.jdc.org/news_press_122704.html)
American Red Cross (https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp)
Global Impact (http://www.globalimpact.org/globalimpact/default.htm)
NetAid (http://www.netaid.ga0.org/world_schoolhouse/actions/crisis_asian_earthquake.html)
Save the Children (https://secure.ga3.org/01/helpasia?stationpub=hp_asia_overview)
UNICEF (https://www.unicefusa.org/site/apps/ka/sd/donor.asp?c=duLRI8O0H&b=277271&en=cdKAIGOjGcKFLIOnE4JzGLOjHdITIYPtHaIEKQOwEiLPI4I )
World Vision (http://www.kintera.org/site/pp.asp?c=fvKVLbMVIwG&b=277370)

You can also visit eBay for auctions whose total bid price will benefit one of the agencies above. If you donate, please PM me with the total amount (if you so desire) and I will compile a grand total of donations contributed from Ayonae Ro board members as well as giving recognition of your generous support.

My family did our bit. Not nearly as much as I would have liked, but then, when is it ever?

It kills me, honestly, that we're off on holiday in a few days. But then, I eat 3 meals a day, every day, and Africa is starving by the millions every year.

This is the fucked up world we live in.

Like Fandros I too do automatic pay deductions for a charity. Mine is United Way of York county and I donate $300 a year. My GF is leading a campaign at her work (that has now spilled over into my work) to collect donations for UNICEF we have over $200 pledged in one hour and rising! I urge everyone who can to please help however you can!I am directing all those I know in the MMO community to this forum in hopes that they too can donate. Thanks for providing all the major charities in one place.

$1025 pledged today as of 29:00 EST 01/07/05

Our little drive ends Monday as we are making the online payment to UNICEF then. Don't know if we will get more than that till then, who knows.

Grand Total donated to UNICEF this AM was $1075 (ref id 13497454)

If you're unable to help out financially (like me), you can always go donate blood.

One of my bartenders, her mom and boyfriend are heading to SE India in 2 days. They've raised nearly 3k to create their own fund. The mom has been to India 12 times or so and has many personal local contacts. I've gotten several local businesses to donate around $700 to match our Bar. It's cool to see people really stepping up for this.

What's the over under on when we discover that too much money has been committed and people are stealing mass quantities of it?

Wave of giving

Following the devastating tsunami that occurred in South Asia on December 26, 2004, individuals and organizations from around world responded in a powerful way. As the death toll continued to climb and countless cities were reportedly devastated, giving around the globe became as mighty as the waves themselves. The outpouring of generosity at Quad/Graphics was no different, proving once again that our employees rise to the occasion in times of adversity.

When it was realized how enormous the tragedy was – and that some of our own employees have relatives who were directly affected – Quad/Graphics reacted by establishing the Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund. Employees were given the opportunity to help those in need by donating to the drive, which ran from January 3 through January 28. As is done during the Community Fund drive, Quad matched its employees’ giving dollar for dollar.

At the conclusion of the fund drive, Betty Quadracci and her family upped the ante with a gift of an additional $25,000, which was matched by Quad. With the company match, the drive to help victims of the tsunami raised more than $230,000. To be precise, 2,026 individual contributions were made for a total employee giving amount of $115,316. The company match brought that figure to $230,632.

All money raised will go to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, a non-profit agency that specializes in providing effective disaster relief directly to the people who need it most. After immediate needs have been met, the money will fund long-term rebuilding projects. While we can’t replace the lives that were lost in this tragedy, we can do our part to help the survivors begin to rebuild their own lives – and we have. Thank you on behalf of Quad/Graphics and all of those who will directly benefit from your selfless giving.

This is what my employer had set up for this particular need for money. Yearly well usually donate 2 million and rising for various charities that we decide we want money sent to...its all lumped into what we call the "Community Fund." This drive was above and beyond that.
