Not sure what they have you do in texas, but my advice is to work on your 3-point turn. Here at least you usually won't have to parallel park, but it might not be a bad idea to get that down too.

The only other things I had to do was make a left onto a two lane road and a right turn on red (I ran the light but the guy still passed me, go figure).

When I took my test I didn't have to parallel park. I passed some multiple choice test, that people were actually cheating on... Then I had to take a driving test. Just had to drive around a small neighborhood, make a left turn onto a highway and then make a right. Just be safe and make your best judgement. I had only been driving around for about 2 weeks when I took the test, and I got to use my own car heh.

I don't know about the US standards but up here in the great north (well not so north hehe), we always try to show them what they want to see. Always use your signal lights, watch the mirrors and always, always, check blindspots when turning or making a lane change.

And try not to hit anyone hehehe.

Make sure you can back up in a straight line along the curb.

Stop or slow down for everything, kids on the sidewalk, dogs etc.

Use your signals.

Check your mirrors and blind spots consistently.

Come to full stops, don't roll through.

Also, don't put your hand on the instructors thigh and run it up her skirt.

No matter how much you try to explain it's a habit from your GF, they won't believe you.

There's a link off your state's DMV page with resources for practice tests. Poke around a bit more and you might be able to find the exact specs. I live in NY, and there was a tips section on my DMV page that told me pretty straight-up what I would be tested on.

Don't be nervous, it's really pretty easy. Up here it takes 10-15 minutes and it's pretty much basics. Go the speed limit and don't blow any stop signs, as long as you're familiar with most driving meneuvers you won't have any problems. Worst my test giver could complain about was me kissing the curb on my K-turn. He had nothing to say about my Parallel park, which was what I was worried most about.

I'd imagine the most important rule is to let them know that you "Don't mess with Texas".

Don't pull off so fast at the beginning that you squeal your tires. Dad had a friend that did that and the Tester didn't even let him get out on the road. Just failed him right there.

hmm i took my test in texas although that was 22 years ago but judgeing from the skill of the drivers in texas these days it can`t be that hard to pass .

back then you took the written test and then you provided the car for the driving part , maybe it changes from city to city not sure .

we had to do parralle park back then even tho in 22 years i`ve only had to do it maybe 4 times i still think it`s on the test .

one thing they look at is hand postion useing the 10 and 2 hand postion is a big plus as even tho it shouldn`t matter they seem to think it allows for better control and is one of the things they look at .

another is the 3 point look before pulling out from say a stop sign, etc, ie your at a stop sign and turning right look left , then right then left again before pulling out . oppsite if pulling out left , ie look right then left then right then pull out and go left .

worest thing you can do it get nervous as that tends to make you screw up, just block him out pretty much and good luck !

Dont Palm the wheel, Try going hand over hand.. it will look better some testers are anal and will take off points for palming. Make sure if he tells u to take the next right.. and its a one way street... just notify him and take the next one. Alot of stupid things try to keep away from.. the little things hurt the most sometimes
