For some reason when I click on the drop down menu on my browser (or any drop down menu) aren't working properly. Seems like when I click on them the drop down for a flash-instant and then back up.

What could be the problem?

My mouse seems to be working properly in all other aspects.

If your keyboard is USB, un-plug your keyboard and try it. Also, is your keyboard or mouse wireless?

Both are wireless

I have two wireless key boards and two wireless mice on the same desk... think that is it? Maybe I need to readdress them?

Try resyncing them.

There's a method with keyboards that I think works quite well. You'll need:

2 slices of bread.
1 jar of peanut butter.
1 knife.
1 hammer.
1 toaster.

Step 1: Put the slices of bread in the toaster.
Step 2: Wait until the bread toasts a light golden colour.
Step 3: Remove.
Step 4: Use the knife to spread peanut butter over the slices of toast until thick and creamy.
Step 5: Eat.
Step 6: Take the hammer and smash the fuck out of your keyboard.

Hope that helps.

The re-sync thing didn't work so I'm going with the hammer/sammich approach and getting a new keyboard and mouse.

Thanks for the help guys.

Is it happening in anything other than a browser?

Yes I tired IE and it is doing it in that one also. I thought the mouses left click button is fubar but I can click other stuff okay. It is just the drop down menus. Is there anything unusual concerning dropdown menus? The right click works well.

Try changing it to a Left-handed mouse, and see if the problem replicates....if it does, something is screwy in your Registry.
If not, get a new mouse.

I tried swapping the primary function from left to right and it didn't help the dropdowns..... Time for a new one! :)

Thanks for the help you guys! :)

We tried!

No, you need to look at your registry, something is screwy there.
If the problem had not evidented itself after switching the functions around, then the mouse would need to be replaced.

Since the dropdown function isn't working correctly no matter what you change for the settings on the mouse, there's something wrong in your registry, most likely.

I am not sure about doing stuff in the registry. Does AVG or some other program check that stuff out?

There are several registry cleaners available from www.download.com that do a pretty good job.
Try there, or Google "Free Registry Cleaner".
Or if you have Windows Recovery running, restore to a previous state, before the problem occured.

Where is the windows recovery thing at? If I have it I could run that.

It's in the Control Panel on Windows XP.
If it's running, then you are ok.
If not, you'll have to clean your registry, or reimage your computer with the recovery disks.

So, what it seems like is happening is that something is taking the attention away from the drop down... like if you clicked off of it. Does it happen with your start button?

Before heading out and getting a new kb / mouse, try plugging in a USB mouse and try that (unplug the USB dongle for your KB / Mouse). Its possible that you're getting some kind of interference.

If that is not the case, then you definitly want to look into what might be lurking in your system. Its possible that there is some form of malware in there causing issues. As always, I recommend a full scan with housecall.trendmicro.com
