512x4 or 1024x2? Any performance difference either way?
Most of the info I can find says 2x is more stable and generally better than using 4x. Any dissenters before I order?

You're ordering one of the newer CAS Latency 2 Two gig kits that have come out recently? From reviews I've seen that seems to be the way to go. I'm itching to build a new system and that's the route I'm currently planning on going.

It's DDR2. I can't find anything faster than CL3 in that. Am I missing it, or is that DDR?

My bad. I'm going Athlon X2 for my next box so I have DDR on the brain. I haven't been reading up on DDR2 at all. 1 Gig DDR DIMMs suffered from higher CAS latency than the 512's for a long time and new chips just coming out are finally catching up. I don't know if DDR 2 has the same 2 slots populated vs 4 slots populated issues or not.

I have been running dual 1024's for a while now, and am quite happy.

Weird. The cl3 memory came in 5-3-3-12, where the cl4 was 4-4-4-12. Either way, going from 1gb of the cl4 to 2gb of the cl3 has made a dramatic difference.
Also, I learned that you shouldn't put the memory in backwards. It gets hot.

I'm suprised it still works.

I kinda was too.
The slot on DDR2 is just a couple pins off center. Working from a weird angle without good visibility, you can make it fit backwards way too easily.
