My marketing class used this commercial to debate whether consumers actually remembered the name of the advertiser. About half of the Citibank commercials retain the product recognition, the others are still good- but Citibank's name is lost in the humor. I love this one, though.

I like that commercial, kinda funny.
Although, for what it's worth, I figured it was some game system advertisment, and didn't pay much attention. Deep down, I hate commercials though, so I don't make a very good target audience.

You're not alone. There are more and more commercial avoidant consumers out there. Nowadays, you can watch commercial-skipped TV, listen to commercial-free radio, and pop-block your Internet ads having never seen or heard the advertisement. You can choose to pass over print ads, newspaper articles, and billboards- but at least your eyes would catch a *glimpse* first. Advertisers are going to have to come up with new strategies in regaining your interest in their industry. The onus is on them to woo you back.

Faervas and I got a giggle out of this commercial, and can imagine some of our friends in their places... ;)
Several times now, while we were tooling around in WoW Faervas would type out: "Wand strike" - and we'd trade the lines of this back and forth; oddly, noone in our group of geeks would get it, but perhaps this commercial isn't being shown nationwide, (or they're in the game so much they don't see TV ;) )...

I'm not just commercial avoidant, I'm flat out opposed to most types of advertising. While I realize my deep down desire to live in an advertisement free world is not realistic, especially from an economic standpoint, I feel that most commercials talk down to the public and genuinely bombard us with feelings of inadequacy. That is to say, the goal of the average commercial is to make you feel inadequate, so buy their stuff. Just...kind of offends me. Other than the occasional chuckle at a commercial like this, or advertising for events, I could live without most of the crap dumped on my TV.

Agreed.
Marketing is supposed to be a clever communications medium that informs, educates, persuades, and entertains the consumer- delivering a message about a product or service.
I don't know if I will remember that Citibank will protect me from having to geek out, dress up, and entertain my friends with live role-playing combat sessions while waiting for my rewards program to pay up....but "wand strike" is hilarious, and they effectively communicate their point.

I go on a channel flipping frenzy during commercial breaks.... So I do nto see much direct advert. I make up for it though on Sundays during my NASCAR races. They are 200mph billboards. And I, ironically enough, inentionally use products that sponsor my favorite driver.
