But it's happened a few times on television that I've seen--a character on a show will make an inference to his or her real life persona or something else they did--better with an example--

Last night whilst waiting for 'I'm with Her' to start, I caught the tail end of '8 Simple Rules'.

The daughter was asking how her performance was in the school play, and James Gardner's character (playing the grandfather) stated that "it was worth missing the 'Rockford Files' for"

Now to me that's very funny.

Another example (and this'll be dating me a bit)

Ben on 'Growing Pains' once mentioned during an episode (and it was a long time ago so I won't remember the exact quote) that he liked watching television, "especially that show that's on between 'Family Ties' and 'Moonlighting'--y'know, the one with the cute kid in it!" ('Growing Pains' was on between 'Family Ties' and 'Moonlighting'--sue me if that's not exactly right, but you get the point)

What else... There's another one but I can't remember it. Almost like the Sandler movie 'Little Nicky' that had many 'cameos' of characters from his other movies...

Anyway, throwing it out there.

K...
You know how you hear a good joke on Seinfeld or Friends or something and you try to tell it to your friends but they either dont get it, it makes no sense, or you just cant tell it right? Yeah thats what this is like.

It's like trying to tell people who don't play everquest, about something funny that happened. What I do is try to relate what happened to our job or another instance of life that they can relate too.

I laughed at that spandex comment too Shylie, though I did get some odd looks from my friends.

I tried that once, I was reading the boards and something made me laugh a bit. A friend I work with was next to me and asked what I was laughing about. So I tried to explain the Quon to him...

'Tis like that Simpsons ep. where Bart's in the 'smart school'--'Get it? RDRR!?!'

ANywaz, I'll 'xplain it all nice and slow-like.

James Gardner starred in an old detective show from the early '70's called 'The Rockford Files'

On Tuesday night, on '8 simple rules', his character (and here's the good bit) says, "Oh, your play was worth missing the 'Rockford Files'..."

It's not earth shattering, but, to me, 'twas a nugget worth posting.

Like it or no, matters not.

Move along... nothing to see here...

(though I did like the 'spandex' remark as well :) )

www.imdb.com (http://www.imdb.com) has a trivia section for movies, lots of little references to other roles actors played, or RL references, kinda fun to browse through.

Check out older movies, they tend to have the most information. Some video game stuff in there as well.
