Maybe I should put it in Nuggets, but the goal is quite of actuality, and even small ways to save energy easily should be praised and spread. :)

Black is beautiful! :D

More seriously, do you think it's really "working"? Does white backgrounds require more energy from comps than black ones?

I would imagine so. Turn all the lights off in your room, go to a white background site (this one for example), then tab to that. Your room gets considerably darker. It may not be a lot of energy saved, but every little bit counts right?

Something to think about when designing websites in the future for sure.

CRT monitors, sure. My shakey, hard to support understanding is that LCD monitors lights are always on in the background, and the savings is minimal. Even less when you consider how quickly people navigate off of a google page.

It seems like a nice idea, and yeah every little bit helps, but there are so many other ways to save energy that only require minor lifestyle changes which will results in much greater savings.

I'm offended that white pages are being unfairly treated....

On most LCDs, it actually takes more energy to display the black version.
