Didn't EB have HL2 down for a february shipping until last month?

Beta hasn't begun yet. I don't know ... they said it would be 2004, but didn't identify a quarter.

I would say there's little chance for it to be released then, but who knows, they might pull a Verant and release it whenever. But I am sure a phase of public beta will begin then. They said Legends beta and old EQ members beta would begin shortly after the class list release. So I'm guessing Jan 2004 for us oldies.

Dont see why not. It's not like they feel they actually have to FINISH games before releasing them. :)

It could happen if Sony decide that the beta doesnt need to be all that long. They have a lot of experience in the MMORPG field these days, a lot more than any of their competition that I can think of unless somebody wants to point me in the direction of someone who has been around longer doing the same thing.

Regardless, as Jensae said, knowing Sony they'll just release the game when they want and expect us to pay for the privilege to beta test it. That isnt always bad in my opinion, you can see the evolution of the game for yourself that way, and as far as it goes, we've been pretty much beta testing EQ for going on 5 years, so we cant really complain about doing it again :)
