(repost from Graffes, I know we've got some real tech heads here tho)
Currently contemplating the purchase of a Dell (yeah, I know Dell's service sucks, but their flat panels are getting rave reviews for the price) 2005fpw.
I dont recall seeing a video mode in options (but I havent looked lately) that matched any widescreen mode let alone the native resolution of this panel, which I'm told is 1680x1050. I cant stand running lcds at other than native resolution.
Anyone have any experience running EQ1 with one of these or similar?

It will look fine, or at least it does to me using a Wide Ultra XGA (WUXGA) Dell screen on an Inspiron 9100 I have.

Hmm... I can't say I've tried exploring those widescreen options as my UI is designed for 1280x1024 resolution. I'll let you know though... I have a BenQ 23" widescreen monitor with 1920x1200 native resolution. It works nicely running two sessions of EQW at 1280x1024 though.

I just got a 2005FPW last week. Installed it, fired up EQ, same old standard size. Checked the options, nothing new there. A little disappointing.
Then, yesterday, I was checking a few other things in the Options menu (character models and such), changed some stuff I wanted displayed and started it up. Bingo. Widescreen options available.
Install the latest drivers for your video card. Install the latest drivers for the monitor. Re-run the Options from the login screen and you should be set. I'll see if I can get a decent screenshot tonight so you can get some idea if you like it or not. Personally, I'm blown away with it.

I just want you to know I'm really jealous of you at this moment! :p
Kalaz, does it change the field of view or just stretch the view to fit the screen?
Please let us know I'm very curious. I've been looking at new monitors and haven't purchased yet.

No doubt, I've heard of these mythical moniters but never seen what they can actually do!

I love the new flatpanels that have a glossy, glare-free screen. They're just so huggable!

I adore my flatpanel. I don't really know the specifics of it but I do know that I can stare at it for hours and not have to put my glasses on cause my eyes hurt!
With my old computer I could be across the room and look at the moniter and be like "OH MY EYES HELP ME!" Dang computer cost me $350 for those stupid glasses that I hardly wear anymore.

I was just looking at that Dell monitor this morning trying to decide if I should get one when I have the money in a couple months. My only real question is does anyone know which ATI cards have the support for wsxga+?

1920x1200 Resolution. Using Radeon 9700, btw, Trell. Used a resolution in game that put a black box around the border until I found the real good one. I'd strongly recommend getting the monitor to suppor that resolution, it's fantastic.

Ohh thats nice!
I use Apple's 23in cinema display at 1920x1200, just as Draviene does, and it's kick ass. I got eye fatigue though during the first couple weeks because I was trying to focus on the entire screen at once. Now I just move my eyes around to the part that's relevant and no strain. Not much ghosting at all, response time curves have improved a lot.:p

I don't have the screenshots available yet, but one the things I did notice in them is that it doesn't really change your field of view to a wider area. The 1600 x 1050 view is actually a 1600x x 1200 view with the top and bottom parts of the picture cut off. Time to go see if there's a way to control FOV in the configuration files.....

I was just about to say it doesn't seem like your view is any bigger just the resolution has changed.

My UI takes up about half of my screen because I can't play in those tiny tiny resolutions. So having a larger area to spread it out with would be super nice!
