Tonight we will venture to the Isle of Refuge to kill Darathar. This has been a 3 month venture and a goal of mine since I became the guild leader in May. While I personally am still on Deception and need the 3 ring drakotas I am looking forward to fighting this beast.
Has anyone else made it this far? Anyone else out there working on the Prismatic quest? We have two scheduled Darathar raids in the next two weeks and it should finish us up with this before expansion time. We are living proof that a casual guild can do any end game mob in EQ2...well we haven't killed him yet as a guild but hopefully that will change tonight!

ehhh we got our butts whooped. 5 healers are not enough apparently lol. sadly it wasn't his nasty AE it was his 3-6k riposte that wiped the healers in sometimes one blow. oh well we'll be trying again soon enough :)

MT group Guardian, SK, Zerker, Templar, Warden, Conjur = win

Why an SK?
And we would have loved a warden in the MT group but none of ours were logged on.
Our MT group looked like this last night:
Zerk,Temp, Mystic, Troub, Paladin, Conj
No Wardens or Guardians could make the raid, so we tried it with the conj pet a few times first who couldn't hold agro even though we weren't attacking for about 20secs. So we tried one of the zerkers, it actually started ok but just not enough healing power. I think all of us were expecting to be munched by the AE, I had my HR over 5k and was only taking about 459-1000 of heat damage. The riposte however or tail swipe not sure which, just chewed our healers to pieces.
But I'm still curious what advantages the SK has.

you can stack zerk/sk defensive buffs, zerg adds mitigation 900hp and chance to riposte allys attack and some avoidance, sk adds more avoidance and another 400 melee mitigation, you're wasting your time if you dont have a guardian for darathar.

Well, we'll see in a few days as we are going back. It's sad how easy the ring drakotas are compared to some mobs in the game. There is something uncanny about a 10min fight.
We will be ready, our tank has been outfitting himself in some nice stuff and we've had some nice chests drop of late so it should be a good fight. We have 20 people who need to kill the big nasty for their prismatics so I'm looking forward to it.

We are going this sunday. We have 2 active guardians, but no Conjuror. Do you think we can do without?
Something we have been told: Do not let your guardian attack, Darathar has huge riposte. Just use the taunt skills.

I can definitely attest to the last statement. Your guardian will do well if he has close to 4k mitigation and over 9k HPs. He cannot attack or use abilities he can only TAUNT or the frigging tail swipe will wipe your raid. Make sure your DPS knows they can't go hog wild on nukes and rangers on their bows or you will wipe if he loses aggro. SPAM SPAM SPAM HEAL HIM, EVEN IF HE HAS 100% HEALTH DON'T STOP. His health will go from 100% to 20% in one tick. No wards, period they lower mitigation until the revamp. Heat resist!!!! With a 5k+ HR I take minimal damage from the AE so wizards are your friend. Good luck! We are doing him again Sunday.

alas he kicked our hineys again. we did get him to phase two this time though. however we only had 6 healers and our MT would go green-red-yellow-dead :( about 2 or 3 more healers and he's ours.

We...got lucky. We had 8 healers, and we managed to kill him. I am pretty sure it also involves some luck, 2 high damage spikes in a row, and the tank dies no matter what you do. Sootfoot gear, potion of something Aura of the Glade, and the Derk spell is a must. AE was nuts with 5500 resist+.
We wiped on first raid 7 times, and we beat him on 2nd raid the 4th time. The naggy run after this was... fast :P

p.s. I am very glad we could do it before combat rewamp.
p.p.s. Do you think it will be upped when lvl 60 kicks in? Or will it scale?

Btw, maybe my memory fails me, but Isle of Refuge had MUCH easier mobs last time I was there :)

we are going again this weekend but will not zone in if we don't have the healers, none of us want debt before the expansion lol.
gratz on your kill and shiney new weapon! I'm jealous, very jealous.
I'm not sure what they will do for him and the contested mobs after revamp. But he still remains the only mob we can't beat. Hell we take down 4x contested mobs all the time, why can't we get Darathar :(

What makes you wipe? The damage spike, or the raid dies to AoE?
Against AoE - You all have something Aura of the Glade to get 611 HR right?
Also, I guess you can evade barrage and tail swing, you probably know where to position yourself (somewhat in front of his back leg, close to his side, under his wings.
Besides that - he does his most damage at the first 3min of fight. I suggest if you have the Leadership ability (any human can) use it on the tank at start. Also - dont be afraid to respec if you can. You will respec in DoF anyway, and my respec granted me an extra 411 HR.
Lani
p.s. Belt of the outlaw Brigand - 150 HR, the quest is doable in 1 hour in Antonica / Thundering Steppes, and usualy belts dont have HR.

We tried him again last night.
We had 10 healers (still no warden). Our MT had just under 8900HPs. The first two phases were absolute cake walks. They probably took 5min total. The MT group had something like 5K+ HR so they never suffered once. Most of the raid is in sootfoot gear I had about 3400 HR and took minimal damage.
So we get back to the rock and buff for phase 3, nothing can wrong right? Wrong...as we move out he zeros in on our coercer, enchanter, and dirge and kills them and no one else. WTF? Back to the rock, he resets we go rez, rebuff and go again....same thing. Ok...so we swim far left and come in behind him, get up on the beach to his rear the Guardian goes in and same thing he came for the power regeners. MT can't get agro and he just plows us with his tail swipe. Ok so we try something else...we send the MT in to turn him for us and we follow. This actually seems to work ok. We are fighting he gets to 75% with no issue, 50% no issue, then around 48% he does some kind of triple attack (someone called it a monk attack) our healers couldn't keep the MT at all so he goes down and then someone on his foot gets agro doesn't get him turned around fast enough and the tail swipe smacks us good. We try this several times (until the MT's armor is gone) and we lost 2 healers in there to LDs or whatever reason. So with 8 healers we keep trying, and then after a while we just gave up.
I don't know what the heck happened between phase 2 and 3 that made him so buggy but he was so ours last night :(
At 3400 HR the AE is minimal, my health stays green. I don't know if it's our luck, our MT, or our group makeup just really sucks.
Oh yeah I forgot to say... that at the end of phase 2 we took a bio break. 95% of the raid was probably AFK. For no unknown reason (everyone knows not to target him) he came and wiped us. One guy made it out thankfully or we wouldn't have been able to try again. It just seeems our luck is crap with this guy.
