I am horribly bored. I played through bf2, morrowind, oblivion, neverwinter nights, diablo, doom 3, each a million times. I was reading about vanguard, but it seems it wont be worth my money for probably 6 months. I decided to play either eq2 or wow, and chose eq2. I am not sure how far I will get but I still sit in front of my computer for 4-6 hours per night. That being said, does anyone have any suggestions as far as race, class and server? I don't really want to play a warrior again, and I want to be a desirable class for groups and raids. I don't care much for pvp. I got more than enough of that stress from bf2. My first character on eq was a shaman and I think I'll try that again.

Desirable class? Play a healer. Any of them. Some idiots in the game think that a balanced group of 6 need 2 healers - and people thinking this made of it a trend :)

Without guild pick a healer. Any of them will do, although imho Druids are the most fun, and they have an easier time soloing after lvl 55 than the other healers.

My guild, Prism, is on the Everfrost server if you're looking for some familiarity.

Healers generally are in demand (though we're more in need of scouts than anything else, oddly), and I'd go druid or shaman if you plan to solo. Templars are good at healing, but soloing is incredibly tedious.

Good advice and I echo it as well.

EQ2 is a really great game and I actually like it more than WoW or anything else I have tried. I just burned myself out on it and got to the point where I had to raid if I wanted to progress and my time atm just doesn't allow that. I have started so many characters from the ground up I was just sick of it and I didn't have time to raid so I had to go :(

I am in the same boat Fildien is in, it was a great game and I had a blast on the pvp server. Met some great people and had fun harrassing people with a elite group of pvper's, then the guild got greedy and was forcing everyone to level and raid so I got burnt out. Maybe someday I'll reopen my account but right now I am preoccupied with playing Wolfenstein ET. BTW I have a 50ish Fury and its a really fun class to play in PvE or PvP.

Wife and I both are in guild Spellbound on Mistmoore. It's a family guild and mostly casual players. We do not like raiding so the wife and I duo through quests and instances. Ther are SOOO many quests to do we have caught our selfs a couple times turning of XP just to make sure we did not out pace the fun quests. We do not play to be lvl 70 and just enjoy the journey. There is a lack of healing on Mistmoore like most servers. Just play what you like.

Spellbound is a good guild I remember them from when I was there on MM. The approach you have with EQ2 is how I am approaching WoW at the moment just for fun. I can't play EQ2 that way though :(

I made a barbarian shaman a couple days ago. I joined the permafrost server and played him to level 8 in the newbie area. I then tried to make a halfling to see what classes they could be. I was surprised to see they could be a shaman. Unfortunately it seems like with the halfling shaman I only had about 5 servers to chose from and they all said "light load" in green. I rememeber with the first character I had many more to choose from and most were blue.

Each time I gained a level I would gain new spells. They would go directly into the hotbar at the bottom. I have figured out how to remove items from the hotbar, but I cannot find a spell book with all the spells I posses so I can choose which ones I want in which order in the hotbar.

I also noticed that I cannot see my own weapon moving when I am in first person view. I like to see it move so I know I am attacking. Any ideas about these items?

The weapon movement and appearance is definitely in the interface options. Typing alt o or ctrl o will get you there (can't remember which).

There is a spell book and you can get to it by clicking the EQ2 button on your interface window if memory serves however "k" will will open your knowledge book or it could be "b". You can start a character on any server you want you just have to choose it. The load varies as I have learned so one that is heavy right now might be medium the next day. I have no idea how they figure this out.

The spells automagically popping into your hot bar will stop after you run out of room OR when you ding 50. At 50 you must attain them through other means.

K opens the spell/skills/abilities book. You can open new hotbars to accomodate additional spells after your first fills up.

How are you liking the new expansion Osgi, I left right before it came out so havent played it much, Only got a chance to dink around with the fairy class, which reminds me do you see alot of fairies running around in game these days?

Being that it's a stand alone expansion (lvl 1 - 70 stuff) there is an endless supply of stuff to do. The wife and I are what I would call fairly casual. She puts in more hours then I can, but we hit the small group/duo type stuff. Neither one of us like raiding at all and there is still plenty of instances and quest lines to keep us happy. The fea are fairly fun to play. they play the same as any race excpet they can float and do not ever take any fall damage unless you are unlucky enough to get hit right as you fall then you plummet like a rock. The HQ's quest line are long and fulfilling. Equipment for us is good. Since we do not raid we do not expect to recieve raid quality gear. They added armour sets. Get all the pieces and get special powers that rival fabled gear. They are very hard to come by. The graphics of the new area are very nice. All the outdoor zones have a large feel to them and each dungeon or castle is..well..... suitabley dungeony. we have not noticed any goofy pathing bugs and the quests work well.

So Thormir, is your character in Prism named Thormir? I made my permanent character there and I havnt seen you in the four days I have been playing.

I do like the quests. They are very linear and incremental, much like the upgrades were in diablo 2. You go through alot of stuff and each upgrade is only slightly better than the last. I just figured out the spell combo thing. It is interesting. I assume there is no penalty for doing it as often as possible?

I was offline for awhile due to dead video card. I'm back now. I do have a Thormir in EQ2, but you're more likely to see me on Caracatan or Xandir, amongst others. This weekend is a bit sketchy, but I'm in and out.

Teaamilie maybe? I wonder how her and Miarez are doing - I remember meeting up with them for cheesesteaks once, was a good time.
