EVE Online is..ummm...2, maybe 3 years old now if I recall correctly. I played it for about a week, but I admit, I didnt give it much of a chance.

If you can latch on to a free trial give it a whirl, it's not a bad game. I played for a little bit. Neat concept, at least, but most of the players are going to either be those who enjoy crafting (mining, running the corporations, etc) or deep space PvP pirate types.

What they said. I played it for the free trial period, and actually quite liked it, but my MMOG attention span has been nil since EQ. I didn't subscribe after the trial time period.

My feelings on it is that it fills a hole. Its the only game of its type that I know of; the only really popular one anyway. Theres a group of players who like MMORPGs that want something different... something more SciFi. This game is perfect for them.

I've never played it, but I read that they really got their act together later on and solidified the game. Supposedly, they pioneered a lot of the instancing and other "new" ideas that we've been seeing in the more mainstream games, but don't get credit for it.

It's not a bad game really, but if you expect to go in and be on top of the food chain in a week or so, then it won't be for you. There is a definite learning curve to this game but once you get into it, it does get alot better.
That said, it does fill a gaming niche which has been lacking lately imho...(X3 is coming out soon, so hopefully that will be good)

EVE has, or used to have, only one giant world, instead of multiple servers, so they claim to break a lot of population records through that and other innovative means. Still an interesting game, I played for a bit but it wasn't really my thing. You really have to be either a pirate or a crafter to enjoy it.

definately the anti-thesis to the WOW game model. it's a long term game and you'll spend the first month's just training and upgrading you ships.
like everyone says DL the trial you might find you like it a ton.
