for those who still play, I have the ability through a reward system at work to get some platinum edition that gives me all the expansions and whay not.
How many people still play the game? Is there still enough raiding guilds out there to make the world fun?
Wow imo broke the game with these bullshit 10man and 25man raids that broke up all the 40 man guilds.
So that leaves me turning back to the originatorn of my MMo life and the ressurection of Greystone, unless the game just doesnt have any new stuff since GoDisord to be good.

Raiding on the Tribunal (the server Ayonae Ro merged with) is limping along at the moment. Several of the guilds have keeled over and gone belly up. However, despite that, there are still a lot of the hotshot raiders from A. Ro that were from IvM, EW and RiP. Ibiza, Trikki, Fandros, and a few others to name a few.

Too true ...
Actually though, Ainwein and I went to EQ2 and it has a lot of the nostalgia of EQ1 but smoother gameplay and better graphics due to it being newer. Its definately worth a look see. We're in Thormir and Esbat's guild Prism on Everfrost.

WoW broke the game eh, explains why we have lots of old timers returning to the fold.
Rest In Peace has alot of old gamers in it and are still progressing along quite nicely.
We're about to gain FrostCrypt raiding ability and already nearly cleared Ashengate.
Game is still fun for me ;)

Is that something new in the game?.. the FrostCrypt thingy

Frost Crypt is an instanced raid zone in the previous expansion.

EQ works if you dont mind being grouped together with people who in a previous era you would have loathed.
Yeah, guilds are progressing but the number of guilds operating at the high and mid-end has dropped dramatically. All of the remaining people who wish to raid are simply consolidated into the small handful of guilds who still run.
EQ players seem to have a huge chip on the shoulder when anyone mentions the decline of the game. The fact of the matter is the game has taken some huge hits. The last time I logged in the only reputable guild from Ayro that I saw was Rest in Peace.

I am sure that was just an error of omision, Ain; Lost Fires is still active and I have never heard it referred to as anything other than reputable.
I agree with Fandros, that there is still fun to be had. The Serpent's Spine expansion, which Frostcrypt is a part of, really did a nice job of incorporating some of the WoW quest stuff, so that completing a quest now actually gives bar-moving exp.
They have indicated that expansions will no longer be rushed out, but will be released one per year, in November; this will allow time to do things right, hopefully, and time to fix anything from the most recent release that needs tweaking.

Hey Grey, its been a long time if you still remember my name. Anyway, lots of guilds you'll remember, some you won't. I've been back for about 4 months now, and I'm having alot of fun. Although the "euro" raidslot sucks and its hard for us to get members at times, we're still kicking, a little!

Haha. Thats so true. I remember when Trikki was a curse word in the RIP channels because of her casting Highsun on a big tree and wiping our raids over and over again. Now she's an officer in RIP I think.
I'm sure there is good stuff out there for EQ1, but its like how there are good games for the Atari. I tried to reactivate Kelraz but even with my current computer I just don't want to play a game that to raid I need to look at the ground or a wall and the combat is just auto-attack and take a nap. Its just hard to make that leap backwards in technology when there are so many good modern games out there.

The Tribunal is among the furthest behind of all servers in terms of progression and number of "high end" raiders, but don't judge the whole game by our server. :P We do have lots of low profile "mid end" guilds.
Heh, the days of "auto-attack and take a nap" are long over. Modern EQ1 raid content is (with a few exceptions) far more interesting than that. And I haven't had to look at the ground to raid in a long time.
People are returning in surprising numbers. In the last 3 months we've had at least 13 guild members return that disappeared anywhere from 6 months to 3 years ago.

EQ players IMHO do not seem to have a huge chip on the shoulder when anyone mentions the decline of the game. The fact of the matter is the game has not taken anymore big hits than any other MMO out there.
Ain, what you see as a chip is nothing more than like someone commenting say on a newly decorated room that one just finished and it is mentioned that it stinks and every other person thinks that it stinks too; and no one is going to come into that room. Those of us who like the room may debate with folks who make bad comments on the room and give you reasons why that room still rules. http://www.ayonae.ro/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Do not mistaken it though for a chip on the shoulder....hehehe <3 Ainwein http://www.ayonae.ro/images/smilies/smile.gif
BTW...EQ is far from the only MMO that has taken huge hits in the MMO world. Many folks like new and shiny games on a consistent basis and will always buy the newest game out there to play; only to drop it in less than 6 months...just the way it is.
One must keep in mind though EQ is EVER changing. If you played the game and dropped it a year or two ago chances are you will find it is not exactly the game you left. It is "almost" like playing a new game IMHO without actually having to start over from square one with a toon. One of the many reasons I love EQ. I love building on something I have had over years. http://www.ayonae.ro/images/smilies/smile.gif
On Tribunal there are many active guilds out there, granted some of have passed on but players that continued to play just found another active guild to join.
"So there is still alot of activity in EQ is all I can say." I have been saying that sentence since 2003!! :)

I sent a message to the person playing Baelrokk now, and gave a brief outline of what you have said here Grey. I asked him, if he is able to, to let the original Bael know that you were trying to reach him, and where you had posted.

Trikki, Starrla, Agamam, Steady, Isva, Noco (all in RiP)
We have some recently retired/inactive people that used to be in SoT too, including Bodak, Donqui, Lillydale, and Almightie. Some of them plan to return to EQ in the future.
I'm probably missing a few others. You should stop by our forums. :)
