Hmmm, was looking around the Sony site and happened to come across the part with the classes in EQ2.

Needless to say, it is VERY close to the SWG class tree, very interesting indeed.

If in fact you can mix and match and surrender skills like you can in SWG, they might actually have a chance at making a decent game.

Who knows?

no idea where u read u can surender skills, but is ure don't remember reading that, considering there aren't really indivilual skills like SWG has. anyways, the system is simliar to SWG, but is not really realted all considering we can't use blasters.....anyways. i predict the current skills will be like normal (ie defense, parry, riposte) go up through usage. but when u reach lvl 30, u pick a new class which gains access to new skills and skill caps, but u don't actually pick which ones, at least thats what i think it will be like.

Actually, go to the site, the classes are structured almost identically to SWG.

And I didn't mean that they'd be similar like "Woot! Got me a Blaster of Rallos Zek!" but more that with each class there are four categories, and within those four categories there are four levels of skill that result in new abilities, either combat, usage of certain items or the ability to craft new things. For example, I want to be a Bounty Hunter (Come on, who didn't wanna be Boba Fett hehe). To do so I have to master Marksman and Scout. Within Marksman there is Pistols, Cabines, Rifles and Ranged Support with four levels of each. To master Marksman I have to get all four levels then I have to get 620 Apprentice exp. How do you get this? Why by training your fellow players of course hehe. And the best part is you can have more than one class, about 3 and 1/2 to be exact.

Now say I become a bounty hunter and decide that I want to do something different, then I'd cash in some skills to get those points back, however I don't need to cash them all in. Let me get back to my Marksman example. Once I master marksman, I then realize ok, I really don't use rifles anymore, but would love to get some of the skills that an artisan uses. I could cash in my rifle skills and start training for those skils under the artisan class. If at a later time I want those rifle skills back, I can just switch back (with more exp needed of course).

Yes it sounds confusing while just being typed, however it's really quite neat in practice. No two characters have to be exactly the same, and there's no more being limited to one class. How many times have you told yourself over your EQ playing time that you wish you could keep some of your skills however wish you could feign death like a Monk, or sneak like a Rogue? With this system (at leastin SWG anyway) you can mix and match these skills.

It is certainly a different type of game, but at the same time it definately stops the boredom. One thing I've found in SWG is that I have 0 down time. If I can't find a group, I go solo some mobs, if I get bored of that I go out surveying minerals, if bored of that I start making speederbike swoops or other items for sale and set them up on my vendor (yes, you can hire your own vendor if you have that skill purchased), if that bores me then I go off and do the vast array of missions available, going after cash and/or Imperial faction. This certainly beats sitting around for an hour and a half (sometimes longer, we've all been there at some point) waiting for a group.

Will it be perfect, especially at release? Pfffft, not a chance. Heck SWG is still being sorted out (though it's a much better game than when it was first released), but I think if they follow the skill tree path it might actually be successfulm after some tweeking.

I can honestly say the LESS this game is like SWG the MORE I will be relieved.

Aye, EQ2 will do very well not to emulate that pain in the ass skill tree.

Sorry Binu, don't know what blinders you have on. But that was nothing but a pain in the ass.

And yes, I played from start up till 45 days ago...
