I'll be playing the Star Wars MMO probably until this comes out when I'll take a look. Oh hey all, I quit around 2001? So probably a stranger to most =)

TOR unfortunately looks like a single player game with a chat room more than a MMO, and while I'll play it, I doubt it'll really capture attentions like how EQ/EQ2 and WoW have.

Yeah, I agree, which is why Im thinking it'll be a stop gap till EQ3. Unless of course end game blows my pants off. The space combat, while on rails, reminded me of my teenage years in the arcade dropping quarters in that "3d" star wars space game. I think the graphics they used were ray-tracing? /sigh sooo old I am.

TOR has combat on rails? That's a step backwards from that crappy SOE Star Wars game.

While I agree that it doesn't appear to be your traditional MMORPG when it comes to idle interaction with other players (hanging out in cities, etc), I don't know if I'd call it a single player game. You could easily call Guild Wars a single player game by that definition. Yes, playing an instance by yourself is very lonely, but you can form parties and go into instances with groups. I wish it was a little more open world and less instanced, but I think it will still have good multiplayer content.
My biggest question with the game, as you stated, is whether it will be able to keep people addicted beyond a month or two. Having everything voiced is great and all, but the problem with premium quality content like that is, well, it costs a premium to make and takes a LOT more work. So either they are going to start rushing content that is not as high quality or content patches and releases will be so few and far between that no one will stick around for them.

Evolone(My husband) and myself will likely take a look at EQ3 when it gets released. Until then we will probably try Tera for awhile see how that peeks our interest. Currently still wasting time in WOW lvling some alts for fun since the raid scene is kinda pointless atm. Semi looking forward to the expac in Dec tho.

(Getting back on the track of the thread...) I will check out EQ3 or whatever they will call it. I played EQ2X for a couple weeks, and it was fun... but I just didn't have the time to stick with it what with SC2 and Civ V being released so close to eachother.

Depends if SOE does the whole "Item Shop" bullshit. To be honest, I'm hooked on EvE. It's going to be hard topping the depth and versatility that game offers. Perpetuum is close, and VERY cheap. Awesome indy effort. It's like Mechwarrior and EvE Online got together and had crazy sex babies. Yes, Mech MMO.
