Many of the "old school" Ayonae Ro players that are still playing have gravitated to Rest in Peace over the years. :) Valiant Crusaders and Vallis Aspectus are going strong too.

Heh, grats, Grey.
Just cancelled my accounts January 10th. Game was still fun, but the time sink involved in progression was more than I could commit to anymore.

Good desicion Byte. was a tough thing for me to walk away from LF and all the friends there but in the end it was what was best for RL.

Whats the general status of EQ these days? Are there still many servers? Has population decreased dramatically? How much life does it have left?
EQ has such a rich history and legacy, someone should write a book about it -).

My take on it.
As years go by more and more MMOs come out...newer graphics...newer engines. They can take what is good from the older games and mesh them into something new. Just like how folks think a new car looks good so do they think that way of a game. Some folks change their MMOs like they change their cars.
IMHO EQ is wonderful...graphics are great...IE: can change my armor color to help make me unique or change it with my mood. :D
The servers I think about two years ago, decreased in half. At that time quite a few MMOs came out to pull folks from EQ so population decreased substaintially. :(
Population seems to be on a decline but nothing major as to what occurred a few years back. I personally have seen quite a few folks come back to playing EQ. The raids in the game are like no other, IMHO. They just plain ROCK! :) People talk about EQ as being a time sink. I do not believe that game is any more so a time sink than any other game. You can sink as much time as you want into it and as little and still have fun. EQ is a form of entertainment like any other game, just better. :D
I have known folks in EQ for years so that does make it comfortable and relaxing place to play with friends. Although do not get me wrong I still meet and make new friends in the game fairly regularly. I can't help but run into new folks when I am a cleric. :p
As to how much life it have left....well...that depends on a number of things. For me it has ALOT of life left in it. I do not see myself ever not playing EQ. I think of my character as a constant work in progress. But for someone who likes to change games.....well...they would probably say it has no life left and have been saying EQ has been dead for years.
I say the only way you will know is to try it out. Use the /looking for group tool...but most important IMHO is /who all <range of the levels youare lookin to group with> and just shoot them a tell if you see them in a zone you can experience in....I have made more friends that way when playing a newb character. :)

My guild became the second guild serverwide to beat Meldrath in MMM Friday night, of course on the attempt immediately after I logged due to being sick.

I've often thought of firing EQ back up and running around for old times sake. But iirc, I stopped playing around the time that GoD came out.
The thought of trying to play catch up in terms of gear and whatever flags I would *have* to have makes my eyes bleed.

Heh, true, I'd be 65 and running around with that damned..crap..what was the name of the druid armor the dropped from the corrupted skellies. Good grief, my memory is shot.
I got screwed everytime we went to HoH and pop raids for leather armor damnit. Heh.

Im surprised, Usually everyone had an overabundance of leather that not to often you'd see people bitch about it dropping constantly.
giena
02-13-2008, 12:12 PM
Well, to be honest, I was low man on totem pole for loot since my raid schedule at that point was kind of erratic due to some RL commitments. So when the leather dropped it usually went to the pullers or the druids that had a more consistant raiding schedule.
Was just the luck of the draw really :)

The Serpent's Spine expansion was the first that I saw a real impact of WoW, with quests giving observable experience. Because the expansion also included a new race, the zones in it also provide action for all levels. Those quests are also giving some good rewards.
