I've been underwhelmed. First person I met out of the vault, after I'd managed to let that dipshit's mother die to roaches because I was busy killing security guards, was some tosser Mel who I told to shove it when he wanted to rob me, and the dialogue tree went nowhere. Great.

Maybe I was thwarted by playing the first two games, because while "sneaking" out of the vault with the crappy stealth system I got bored and popped the Overseer and his buddy in the back of the head for killing Jonas. Overseers bad.

Heh, the game doesn't actually "start" until you've left the vault...everything before that is tutorial :)

Conversation trees are small when yer chr and speech is low.

who needs to talk when you have a pneumatic claw anyway? I don't. I just punch them until their faces become less annoying.

I didn't care for it at first, but it's getting sort of fun.

I loathe the controls though. Games that you can tell are designed with a console controller in mind are so annoying.

I always have to move wasd to esdf controls...Go figure.
But the worst thing though, is that it killed my desktop! My computer litterally died in the middle of a fireant giving me a blow job. Now I have to get a new motherboard to finish it! Arrrrrgggh.

The first time I saw one of those, I ran right up to it intending to shotgun it at close range. Yeah, that didn't work out so well.

Every single advertisement in Metro Center (Main metro hub in DC, right by the National Mall) is of Fallout.

It's kind of eerie being surrounded by VERY photo-realistic depictions of a nuclear-wasteland that is about 2 blocks away from you.

So yer saying that they did a good job using DC cartography then? :)

Oh, on fire ants....the kid tells you his dad kept saying "hit the antenae". When you do, they get enraged...which means they attack the nearest thing. Not so usefull with single ants, but awesome when confronting 2 or more. :)

It's not the FPS-esque movement, it's the limitation of actions into a subset small enough to fit onto a 8-button or so SIXAXIS, often resulting in decision wheels and heavily overloaded keys, etc. It took me a while to figure out how the hell to use skills since the old Fallout scheme was to map them to 1-10, and the manual was clearly written with the consoles in mind as well.

I got a chance to video tape over in their offices about 6 months ago, and the game looked nice and all, but I don't get ... is it a FPS, or a RPG, or both?
I'm looking for more PC games and may get into this if its more RPG, but I tend to get motion sickness from playing too much FPS so I try to avoid it (or play team fortress).

You can play it in an over the shoulder view if you prefer.

The closest analogue, I think, would be system shock 2 esque.

It's first person that you can pause to do cool actions, then run away from what yer fighting till you recover enough actions to pause and do more cool actions.

Oh, and if yer actions are cool enough, you see them in slo mo.:)

Regarding how the skills work... the cursor changes when you can do something, and if you can't, it tells you which skill needs improving before you can. Reminded me of Grim Fandango for some reason.

I must say the ending was a bit disappointing.

Tranquility lane was pretty awesome though.

Wow, haven't been here in ages!

Anyway, I find the controls kind of cumbersome. And the world is so bleak and depressing, everything looks the same. I felt the same about Oblivion, I never finished it because the dark/bleak world just wore me down. And those friggin' Cliff Racers...

Bleak? Well, yeah. They dialed up the bleak and down on the funny, but they also upped the awesome cool...but then blew the finale. All told, a game spoiling for a sequel. (same engine, just create new content...and don't blow the finale this time).

I hated the controls too, so I remapped 'em. Down with wasd. Long live esdf...and then i can activate with a!

I highly recommend blowing the bomb in Megaton.
