Later everyone, it's been fun.
On October 4, 2005, I will depart my home to begin my 2-year service as a missionary in Paraguay (including some months in language and other training). I will return on 5 October 2007.
Needless to say I will not have the time nor resources to access/surf the internet and such (I will have e-mail but I'll be using that for family mostly). Snail mail will be the primary means of communicating with me :).
Anyway, thank you all for the fun in EverQuest and this message board over the years. I've never really declared EQ retirement even though I haven't played seriously in about 1.5 years, so I suppose this message will suffice for that purpose also ;).
Maybe you'll all be here in '07 and we can catch up.
I will be viewing the boards for the next week and a half or so before I leave.
Thanks again and goodbye!
EDIT: Lol, my 666th post.

Bring alot of shower curtains. Trust me, they come in very handy. Also, baby wipes the anti bacteria types. At least those two things alone, I use the hell out of here in Iraq.
Take care of yourself overthere.

Thank you all for the warm welcome back.
So yes I had a wonderful, hard-working time in Paraguay for two years. I'd like to briefly sum up some of my experiences and maybe share a few pictures some time when I secure some webspace.
Anyway, some of you might be at least familiar with the type of service I performed, basically young people in my church (aged 19-27) are given the opportunity to be volunteer, full-time missionaries for two solid years in a specific place in the world, and my assignment was the geographic region or "mission" of Asuncion Paraguay. This is of course never a forced or coerced thing and I was ready and willing to go.
So basically I walked around the streets, shaking hands, teaching the unique Gospel message of my church, getting to know hundreds, even thousands of people just talking, visiting, sharing etc. I am now fluent in Spanish and even a tiny bit of Guarani, the native indian language local to the region.
Paraguay is an interesting place, a third-world country full of wonderful people trying their best to survive and thrive in today's world (like everywhere else I suppose, but as you can imagine there are unique challenges in this part of the world). The weather is almost always hot, in the summer sometimes reaching the 100s (degrees fahrenheit, around even 40-50+ in celcius at times) with very high humidity, so I became pretty familiar with being exposed to extreme heat 24/7.
My experiences include everything from seeing heart-wrenching poverty to feeling a divine joy not otherwise experienced except through charity in many forms. I have made lifelong friends and connections.
On a lighter note, I have experienced things from counseling a hilarious migit on some of his marriage problems (why he would ask me such things I know not!) to being mugged on the street for a dollar, and even yelled at and verbally abused while being accused as an American spy (sigh =), but the good outweighed the bad by far.
It is great to be home among family and friends again, but I would never give up the adventure I had for anything. Like I said this is just a short summary, but I hope it communicates even a little of my adventure.
Great to see you all again!
