You know, the first books I ever obtained from the library at age 6 were about meditation and magic. Even though much of what I read was not easily digested for a child I did already understand that power can be brought to bear for anyone with the serious desire to use it well. I got involved with Yellow Bamboo because I though it would be interesting to be able to knock people down 10 yards away by striking my hand on the ground. I have pursued Yellow Bamboo past that point now to enjoy it in all aspects of my life.

I got involved with the Yellow Bamboo because I was intrigued by the fundamental concept of using positive energy in all aspects of my life. My experiences have been truly satisfying and I have enjoyed and loved every minute of it.

My Yellow Bamboo experience (long)
Greetings from Bali.
The Bambu Kuning Society has asked me to write about my experiences with Bambu Kuning (YellowBamboo.com)
A bit about myself:
I am 46 years old and pretty much retired from working in 1993 having done very well in investment banking. At least well enough to live in Bali the rest of my life without working
My family and I moved to Indonesia in 1995 because my favorite thing to do is surf, which Bali has some of the best surfing in the world!
Ihave traveled and worked all over the world including all over the US, Europe and Asia. During my travels I have seen and experiences many phenomenal things but nothing compared to Yellow Bamboo (YB).
In 1986-1987 I lived in Melbourne Australia and studied Win Chun Kung Fu with Sifu William Cheung and Sisook David Cheung at their studio in Melbournes’ China town. I was friends of both of them. At that time David was a teacher in Williams studio and I heard that since then David has started his own studio but I have no confirmation of it. I also took private lessons with David Cheung and learned Dim Mak from him as well.
I am currently level 5 which is the level you can also become a Pembina (teacher) and teach lower levels but not yet able to do initiation ceremonies. I found about YB from a friend of mine who told me about her amazing experiences. I took my level 1 initiation in August of 2002 at the full moon ceremony in Singaraja Bali at the YB headquarters at Jalan Rajawali Gang Satria 4.
Every level has been amazing and different and I have had many super or extra normal experiences outside the knocking down of people.
I must also say that the exercises are the most strenuous and challenging I have ever done. I and many others have feinted during them.
My experience:
1. First of all let me clearly state I have *no* financial or other kind of benefit from the Yellow Bamboo society. I don’t give a toss or care if you believe or disbelieve their claims or join or not it is entirely up to you. I have no hidden agenda and get nothing in return if you join or believe. So do not expect me to jump through any hoops to get you to believe or join.
I would also like to say that here is written only my personal experience and I am by no means an expert on YB or Balinese culture. So yours and others experience may be different.
My comments are not endorsed by YB and they have not instructed me to answer questions one way or another and my comments are not meant to represent the official YB positions.
In fact I freely admit I may get some things wrong here.
2. Second let me state that no one in the entire YB society (of which we have over 30,000 members) get *any* financial remuneration from the YB public courses. Not even Pak Nyoman Seringen, the founder, gets any money from the YB followers. In fact Pak Seringen holds a full time job in the Balinese government in the department of education. That is how he supports himself.
Over the course of my training I have had around 11 private meetings with Pak Seringen and found him to be very cordial, polite and real. In my opinion he is a realized person who has attained the super conscious state.
He does not act like a guru from a cult, in fact he does not like people to fawn over him or anything. None of my experience of YB is *anything* like a cult or religion.
The normal student who lives here attends the full moon ceremonies for their initiation into level 1. (There are 11 levels but more about that later). Joining YB is free of charge. We usually pay about $15 which is the hard cost for our uniform, belt, stickers and key chains which all have the YB logo on it. We must wear our uniforms for the weekly sport classes and monthly full moon ceremonies.
The sport classes are every Sunday, held in the morning or afternoon depending on where you participate. IE in Singaraja on the beach in front of the main temple (no I don’t know the address there my driver just takes me there s 14 ) the classes are 8AM and Kuta in front of La Luciola restaurant they are 5PM. The classes are held on the beach because of the magnetic energy of the sand and it is a soft spot for falling down. There is a *lot* of falling down in the classes
All of the above is free of charge although donations are accepted at full moon ceremonies all of which are given to charities not one penny ( I mean Rupiah) is kept by YB.
The only exception is for intensive training sessions. Intensive training sessions are given usually to westerners who cannot or do not wish to live here for the 1-2 years time it usually takes to progress from level 1 to level 11.
For the intensive training sessions the trainee usually pays the Pembina (trainer) for their time. The price for the intensive is negotiated directly between the trainer and trainee and none of that money goes to YB. Having said this, *none* of the trainers are in this for the money. They all have full time careers to support themselves.
In general, for someone to be able to defend themselves from attackers they only need complete the level 1 course. In the intensive mode this can take as little as 2 nights and 2 full days for really serious students.
Day one would be a consult with your trainer and Pak Seringen and the full moon ceremony. Initiation ceremonies can be done on nights it is not full moon as well if needed.
Day two would consist of a day of fasting, consultation and instruction with a trainer and mantra exercises from 8PM to midnight.
Day three and four would consist of individual instruction in the sport exercises and a testing of power. The final thing would be a repelling of attackers.
For someone to do healings they can start at level 1 but it was not until I got to level III until I actually healed people. I have healed my wife’s broken wrist at level III and healed other people with serious ailments as well. I am not usually into healing cause it is boring for me to do, but that is me. However if someone asks me as a favor I will do it.
Some people are into it only for the healing aspect and not the defense aspect. We are *not* allowed to charge for the healings although we usually ask the person being healed to make a donation to the poor the same amount they would pay a doctor for being healed *if* they can afford it.
As you progress to the upper levels the things you learn and can do are even more powerful as you can probably imagine.
Here is my advice for those who are *sincerely* trying to understand more about YB. I have been living here for 8 years now and there is no way a westerner can understand the Balinese Hindus values and culture from the western viewpoint.
They are *very* different from westerners so it is foolish to try to understand them from your point of view so don’t waste your time trying to. The only way you will understand them is to try to look at things from *their* point of view.
NOTE- You may or may not know that Balinese Hindus, even though they are Indonesians are *very* different from Muslim Balinese or Muslim Indonesians. They have totally different values and beliefs. Karma being just one of them.
Karma is super, super, super important to them. Balinese Hindus entire life revolves around relationship with God and Karma. Everything they do has to do with Karma and God. They have many ceremonies several times a day giving offering to God. It is not uncommon to see traffic backed up for hours so a ceremony can pass by.
So their connection to God is the most important thing in the world to them. God and Karma is more important to them than even money. For example, I suggested to Pak Seringen, would it be okay if I used my telepathy (which you learn in level III) to win the lottery.
I thought we could use all that money for charities, feed starving children etc. Pak Seringen said it would be wrong, bad Karma to use “gambling” money proceeds even if it would do good because the karma which would attach to me would be very bad.
I guess I could have done it against his advice but do not want to take the chance to ruin my karma.
Yes I can imagine what you are thinking (my telepathy at work )
That it sound crazy but remember you are looking at it from a westerners perspective. Try to look at things from their perspective if you really want to understand them and the art of YB.
So you must understand that they would not go jumping through hoops and doing a lot of things just for the sake of money. I know- that is very un western of them, is it not?
Now let me talk a bit about the defending of attackers demonstrations. I have watched many attacker demonstrations and here is my take on them.
For the lower level practitioners to repel someone, the attacker must build up anger and hatred towards the person they are attacking and really mean to hurt them or do them harm.
Some on the ng have said the demos look fake to them. Truly some of the demonstrations looked fake to me as well. I believe in those cases it is the power of suggestion. IE A person believes he is going to be repelled so he falls down seemingly on purpose. However, there is no hidden agenda as they would get no benefit from faking it. So in my opinion it is real and true
On the other hand I hand I have seen some attackers come at the defender with true hate and intent to harm and have seen what looks to me like the attackers bounce off an invisible force field. Like running into a rubber wall and bouncing off or something like that.
Now on these cases there is no other logical explanation other than it is real. There is no way people could bounce off an invisible shield unless it really worked, in my opinion.
In general if a person off the street were to attack, say a level 1 defender, there is the probability it will cause internal bleeding and possible death.
This is because a level 1 defender is using a powerful weapon and does not know how to control it, say to use just enough power to knock them out.
So yes- if you were walking down the street and someone tried to kill you and you defended yourself- the attacker may suffer serious if not fatal damage. But in my opinion it is their karma and they deserved it.
(I know quite a few practitioners who have been attacked in real life and defended themselves successfully.)
In the attacking demonstrations they usually do not permit someone to be an attacker until they are level IV because by then they have built up enough internal power that they can be repelled without getting permanently hurt.
But even then, when you are an attacker even level IV or above and are repelled it really hurts a lot!
The only person I know of who can repel an attacker off the street
and not seriously damage the attacker is Pak Seringen but even then when Pak Seringen does it the attacker stays unconscious for a long time.
We had an experience with a level 1 person wanted to attack someone against the advice of the Pembinas he did it anyway. He attacked and was knocked unconscious and none of the Pembinas could revive him. They finally had to load his unconscious body into a car and take him to Pak Seringens house where Pak Seringen was able to revive him.
So this is one of the many reasons why I or others for example would not be willing to do a defense demonstration without Pak Seringen present. So I win a million dollars but get put in jail for killing someone what good would the money do me there?
Lower level students can only knock people down if the attacker is really angry with hate in his heart. My understanding is that Pak Seringen can knock down an attacker even if they do not have hate and anger in their hearts.
So it would be possible, if you were just fooling around, to run up to the level 1 defender and smack him *softly* without trying to hurt him if you just wanted to be funny and show off. Only Pak Seringen would be able to repel them regardless of their intent.
This is also why a non attacker is not effected even if they are standing next to an attacker because they do not have the intention to hurt.
Also one time I had an advanced student attack me he got through the shield and was hitting me as hard as he could but the punches just bounced off of me and I could not feel them and it caused me no discomfort or harm and he then fell unconscious.
So it is not strictly true that you can knock them down from 10 feet away- sometimes they get closer. But having said that you still are unharmed and the attacker is repelled.
One time I asked Pak Seringen the “difference that makes the difference” in becoming successful in YB. Here is what he told me must be there:
1. First of all the most important thing is that you must believe in the YB and the power of God.
2. Second you must have consultations with a Pembina.
3. You must attend a full moon initiation ceremony.
4. You must do the mantra exercises daily.
5. You must practice the sport exercises daily.
I would also like to say that not only can you protect yourself but you can also protect your friends and possessions as well from a distance.
The last point I would make is that the YB is only for doing good. You can use the YB only for positive things like helping others and protecting yourself and others. IE You would not be able to use it to assassinate people or rob banks.

Omfg, that is one of the funniest things I've ever seen...lol.
I can imagine one of these people walking into downtown Detroit or something and screaming at attackers to fall down...and then getting shot repeatedly :\
