Driving home from work I certainly enjoyed WTOP's coverage of one of Obama's townhall meetings today. Obama was asked if he'd give Al Gore a cabinet seat to handle global warming. He replied "Not only will I, but I will make a commitment that Al Gore will be at the table and play a central part in us figuring out how we solve this problem."

The Department of Homeland Security idea was kinda stupid, but the Department of Combatting Global Warming is even stupider.

Maybe it's because I dont see the whole quotation, but where does he imply that he'll create a whole new Department? And who says that Al would even take a job there?

The Democratic primaries get more surreal by the day.

He's probably saying this to try and get Al Gore's endorsement.

He says he would give Gore a cabinet position. It's doubtful Gore would take it. I don't get why this is so stupid? It's mostly jockeying for Gore's support.

It could also be looked at as an attempt to undercut any momentum in the move by some to involve Gore more deeply in the presidential campaign. While it is common knowledge by now that there is not a lot of love between Gore and the Clinton clan, there also is not an overt demonstration of affection for the Obama side being shown. Gore is still being courted by some to step into the campaign, and Obama's flattery may be an attempt to defuse more than an offer of inclusion.

Who's going to be Secretary of Global Cooling then?

Political tactic or not, this makes Obama a less attractive option to me come election day.

I'm fine with it. Global warming is an important issue and it makes sense to have an experienced politician committed to that issue involved. Continuing as we have been strikes me as the worst option possible.

I want a Cabinet position then. I want to be the Overunder Secretary of Currency Luminosity.

Keeping America's coin currency nice and shiny should be everyone's top priority.

If you are found with dull coinage, you will be made to shine it on the spot. Failure to do so will result in a manditory jail sentence.

I want the cabinet level position of Secretary of EverQuest Bardic Affairs.

I could use my new sword I got last night as a letter opener, or as a deterrent to all who oppose the Bards of Norrath.

Maybe you could push for a global tax on music emissions, claiming that they contribute to global noise increases.

No, he just makes ungodly amounts of money and fame from it. You know, someone has to.

He donated a huge chunk of the Nobel peace prize cash, 100% of the movie revenues, funded Live Earth, and while he makes some income after all of the donations (who doesn't make income from their jobs, after all) its pretty nominal compared to what he brings in.
