Actually quite an old story. Read about it a year ago. But most people I have talked to this will not sway their opinion.

True, if bad economic policy and exceptionally poor judgement on Iraq and other foriegn policy issues won't sway them how could this. Moral issues mean very little to nothing in the republican party, this is the same party that tried to crucify Clinton over Monica Lewinsky while the loudest mouths in it were guilty of the same or even worse indiscretions...IE Gingrich, Hyde, Barr etc...

Most politically aware people, no... this wont make a bit of difference.

But hardcore 527 ads in states with heavy amounts of women voters this crushes McCain.

IF they do it. I wouldnt be surprised if something like this is held in reserve as a response to negative/personal from McCain 527s, ect.

No way McCain could win!!!

No Way the Republicans win in 2000, 2004...

I think the safe money is waiting to see who the VP's are going to be at this time.

Each time I hear an outlandish auto-in for Obama I duck and cover waiting on the rebuttal.

I like Obama, I'm just not sure I'm ready for 8 years of socialist regime change at my age!

/joking for Rover!! ;P

Given the social and moral landscape in the US, I'm not seeing one bit of controversy in the article.

...yeah I'm not really seeing this as a big deal, I thought it was a GOP requirement that candidates are adulterers. :devil

Seriously though, I think it would only become an issue if McCain starts playing the "family values" card...and I don't see him doing that, nor do i think he needs to. This is really old news and fairly common knowledge as well as his current wifes problems with drug dependency and stealing drugs from the charity she was running.

Don't see big issue myself either. And dont see it as GOP thing myself. Just sad part of life for rich men alot. Get a newer, prettier version of love. But dont see issue. It should have same thud that the Kerry's wife was supposed to have. It be something people talk about for a day maybe (cause about how long it lasted first time I saw her long time ago). Be like laughing about Fred Thompson's babe. But if this sways you then you got bigger problems then deciding who to vote for. And plenty to attack McCain with, this would be sad if this was the ace up the sleeve. How dare he be married to same lady for 28 years and want to be president.

Folks, to be honest, I could care less what goes on in a Politicians personal life, as long as it doesn't affect how they do their job. If a politician can lead their people to financial and diplomatic success, you know what? I could care less what happens behind the bedroom door, none of my business anyways.

I don't care about anyone's personal drama. I do think his actions in his personal life reveal a bit about his character though, which is relevant.

Being so long ago, I doubt we're talking about the same man as is up for election though.

This stuff is murder in a general election.

Yea.. the Lobbyist thing didnt go anywhere that I though it would. It had serious potential though, and if anyone else in the Republican field was worth 2 shits, it would have done more damage.

But if you think this marriage stuff doesnt hurt McCain with women.... you are living on Pluto.

The lobbyist thing doesn't hold water because anyone who knows what they're talking about realizes that each and every campaign employs tons of lobbyists, and that it isn't necessarily a bad thing.

What they're doing now is having their advisors and managers who work for lobbying firms revoke their affiliation with their firms until after the election is over. That way that can craft nice little sound byte messages that admonish lobbyists, all the while knowing that they not only employ them, but rely on them for their political successes.

Lobbying has a really negative connotation attached to it, but if you really understand the political process you understand it is absolutely vital to ensuring that the multitude of viewpoints held in our country are adequately represented. The only problem is that there are not enough lobbyists to represent all interests, so some people get left behind.

EDIT: Although if McCain gets in trouble for being unethical in regards to contributions or lobbying activities, that is a whole other ballgame.

While I agree with the spirit of the highlighted portion above I feel it's important to note that Lobbying as practiced today is corrupt and vile as all get out. Lobbying as intended has value, but it's only big money and it's changing of hands that's heard. Not your or joe schmoe's , which of course lacks the currency of the land to put it forth.

Lobbyists need to be put out to pasture, maybe institute a double blind kind of thing where the viewpoints are registered but only once and the source never known.

I don't have an answer, but I hate how it's ran atm.

For those of you gleefully rubbing your hands and getting hard over this story, please look in your mirrors and say hello to the same kind of folks as those behind the Kerry Swift-boat ads.

After you have this little exercise in mental masturbation, can you explain why you would rather take this approach than discuss how Obama is an improvement and how his policies will contrast with the Republican, so that there is something of substance to discuss.

The linked article is trash reporting and it is embarrassing seeing it linked and fawned over by some here. Nobody knows why they divorced but the two of them, and possibly a couple close friends or family. This is simply smear politics, which most of you that are panting over it were adamantly upset about when it was applied the other way around.

How the hell can folks say they want to see politics cleaned up when they sit on these forums engaging in exactly what they bitch about?

McCain has plenty to lose on; buying into the bullshit only lowers you, not him.

I'm not saying that I believe it is important, fair, or worthy of discussion.

What I am saying is that a large portion of the American electorate will see it as such, so it's something that you cannot simply ignore.

Re-read the thread. Not one person is saying that this story has swayed their opinion, or that they consider this to be a legitimate political issue.

It would seem then, that your issue is not with us, but the people who are actually going to be swayed by this article.

So, according to you it should be all brought out into the public arena why they decided to divorce for the sake of voter curiosity? If it turned out she had been cheating on him while he was a POW and he came to the conclusion he could no longer live with her, that should be public knowledge, in order to allow voters access to information that may change their vote? Her life and self-esteem should be made vulnerable to public scrutiny, so you and the other trash following "voters" can be informed?

Are you really posting this shit, or letting someone at work use your account, 'cus I never would have believed this of you. There was a time you thought this kind of garbage was out of line, but now you are seeming to revel in it.

You should at least skim the article before posting things like this. These questions have already been answered (long before this particular article was written, for that matter).

The people who this will be a big deal already hate McCain because when they see his name on TV it has a R after it.

It same as the Obama people who say Obama's friends for 20 years have no reflection on him or his morals.

So if someone was voting for McCain and this changes their vote then yes they are living on Pluto. People voting for McCain are already at the lesser of 2 evils point now. They see Obama as way way way out of touch of their values as it is. To decide McCain won’t get their vote and give it to what is basically against everything they stand for is simply not going to happen.

Most on right will vote for McCain because many issues close to them will be decided probably in next term or 2 (Supreme Court, Roe decision). Or they vote for him simply because of fact that Obama is about the most liberal candidate we ever had for president.

In McCain's favor is his past of reaching across the aisle.

His age is bothersome to me, however he is sharp....atm

Obama's utter lack of experience is a real big issue to me.

Atm trying to weigh them out, the VP selection will be the swing vote I think.

If Obama picks Clinton then McCain has my vote (and a shot).

I deal in the political reality.
Period.

I do not harbor fantasies or lofty illusions about it being anything other than a blood sport. I revel in the "strategery", I revel in the chess match and trying to see the game 3 steps ahead of where it is.

This is an article which is undisputed factually. This is what happened.

You cannot have it both ways. The right is coming out with attack ads focused on Michelle Obama. What have I done that is so reprehensible? Ive peeked inside of the lid of Pandoras box to show the 15 - 20 people who read this board regularly what will be coming out should that lid fly off.

This is hardball politics.
7g0RLyxP13o

It is not pretty, but that is how it is done. Obama wants to stop personal attack 527s, then he better have a better deterent than "Oh please play nice". He better have a fucking club.

THAT is how you win. In Politics, In Diplomacy, in anything worth winning.

Now I can't argue from my point of view? Climb off your pedestal and shove it up your ass, 'Weinie.

You are still missing the point Byl... They are not saying that they agree that this news should be the determining factor of whether or not a person votes for McCain. They are simply pointing out that it will be to many Americans. Specifically women voters.

Whether or not it is good or not, doesn't change the fact that it will affect his chances.
