I am curious as to how many of you guys watch Fox News.

A friend of mine who happens to be a republican, constantly gets the news wrong, and argues missing usually half the facts in every discussion. Just last night we had an hour long argument about how he thinks Obama was stupid for saying that McCains Gas tax plan would affect the funding for the maintenance of highways, cause McCain wants the oil companies to pay the tax.

It turns out he is completely wrong, as Hillary has that plan, but McCains is simply a gas tax holiday for everyone, including the oil companies. So after having him tell me Obama was stupid for not knowing McCains plan, and how I was stupid for trying to make excuses for Obama for about an hour. I finally realized, Fox news = the Devil?

It turns out he watches only Fox News, and doesn't do the internet thing either. I wondered, how many here watch Fox News as opposed to other news stations?

Let me also add that any facts I threw at him, were in his mind products of a liberal media... Which seems to be what Fox hammers into their viewers minds.

And apparently Fox News having such high ratings makes him right!!!???

I watch NBC news, as i always liked Brokaw and also prefer Brian Williams over the other channel offerings. This is where I get my "news".

I also watch some FOX programs, when bored, because I can always be assured of getting a good chuckle; one of the things I am amused by with FOX News programs is the manner in which they have changed sets over the last couple years to get more exposure of the women's short skirts. A pretty unanimous consensus among the women I have talked to is that FOX News has an incredibly sexist environment. I also occasionally catch Hardball and Countdown on MSNBC. I used to watch the old David Brinkley show on Sunday mornings religiously.

When there is some kind of obvious breaking news during the day I will flip between CNN and Headline News.

So, I guess I am saying I look at several sources for my information.

I would say most mainstream news sources are getting to the point where they're worthless. Maybe they were all along, but we finally have enough alternatives to realize it?

It's not so much the bias they present in the stories they cover, but how they pick and choose what's news at all. I just read this interesting article about how this vapidity has ruined our election process for some time now:

I have watched Fox, but I also go to Yahoo News, and pick up a smattering of soundbites from CNN as well.

I was having a debate with a coworker a wile back. He was claiming my information was from biased liberal sources. I asked him, if msnbc and cnn are so biased where can I get unbiased information then. I smirked and said fox news? He admitted that fox was biased as well. His only answer for an unbiased news site was christian science monitor lol.

I watch Fox News purely for entertainment purposes only. Not to gain knowledge. I get most of my news from NPR.

People need to stop watching that crap for entertainment... You are adding to their ratings and giving them legitimacy.

Fox, CNN, internet etc etc. Use all the sources I can get my hands on and then try to sift through the bias.

You can't use just one source and call it unbiased news anymore, especially NPR omg. That's as bad as Fox tho the bent is left rather than right ;P

BBC - especially for international news.

CNN is just awful if you want coverage beyond the US.

I like to watch Bill O'Reilly while I'm drinking. He's one of the most entertaining things on television.

I often turn on television when I go to bed late at night. There is a show on Fox News called 'Red Eye'. Honest to god it's the worst fucking thing I've ever seen on television.

As for my news source - I will catch anything particularly newsworthy on Fark.com. If I want to find something in particular I'll usually just Google it, but I prefer Reuters.

How are we adding to their ratings? Unless we are taking part in the Nielsen's or some other research poll, how would their ratings be affected? Are you saying there is some little spy mechanism in the televisions now that tracks the stations we watch, and feeds the data to folks like Ted Turner and Rupert Murdoch, and advertising clients, etc.?

Most cable and satellite boxes do track what you're watching these days. TiVo was even able to track how many people paused and rewatched the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction.

So, if you can get the Fox News channel, yes they know you're watching.

Creepy.
Is there any part of our lives that isn't monitored some where other than when we're pooping and sleeping? Seriously. :(

Hmmm, it would seem to me that without proper disclosure not even some form of implied consent could be used to justify this invasion of privacy.

Is there some small print somewhere regarding this in cable contracts, or with TiVo?

Probably fine print on your bill, or on the box, or in the manual.

Is there some small print somewhere regarding this in cable contracts, or with TiVo?Just guessing, but if they're anonymous statistics it wouldn't require a lease. On their end they may simply be able to see how many users are tapping a channel.

But to be fair, your ISP has records of everywhere you surf, and most websites track that same information. To see TV monitored is not a big jump.

On topic - Does The Daily Show count? I usually skim CNN, Yahoo, CSM, and Spiegel. I almost never watch television news. Too many stories I don't care about, told in a fashion that degrades them. I can't stand Fox. I've had similar conversations with my father to what Jedd mentioned. He's a die hard Republican, only watches Fox, and has accused me of liberal lies.

Very soon we'll have cable boxes that have cameras attached to them which capture a "form" image and send it back - so it knows general info about the viewer such as height and weight and quantities (single viewer or families) for tracking as well. This would tailor advertisements to the viewer.

And then they'll pipe that to government agencies just to satisfy the 1984 You Were Too Stupid To Avoid This Requirement?

I don't really care if they track what I watch/rewind/pause/record. I DO have an issue with someone 'watching' me in my living room.

It was a brilliant move by the Conservative powers.

Step 1. Convince a segement of the people that 100% of the news has a liberal bias and are in cahoots

Step 2. Set up a new media, and position yourself as the only honest ones

Step 3. Everything you dont like or dont agree with is "Liberal Bias". The truth is now subjective.

Step 4. Tell the sheep what to do.

Listen to the Rushs and Hannitys of the world. They constantly tell people THEY are the only people telling the truth, they constantly and incessantly bash all other medias. (Liberal Bias, MSM, Drive By Media) Make wild accusations of media wide conspiracy theories. Blame the media when they fuck up... ect..
They have control of a good portion of the REALLY stupid and suggestable people out there. Its a joke.. a bad one.

It's not news It's Fark! (http://www.fark.com)

Aside from there I usually flip through the different channels CNN, BBC, FNC, all of them during the day. Going to just one source for your news is retarded regardless of your political affiliation.

Agreed. Unable to find any middle ground news that might be, possibly, maybe, "hey, it could happen", objective in it's presentation of the days news and events?

No such thing as "objective" news reporting anymore...Period. Everyone has a bone to pick or an axe to grind. So I take a few from every angle I can find and sorta mish mash it together and somewhere if you look hard enough the truth might sorta be there, but probably not.

Heh, I thought they had taken some kind of legislative action some time back barring advertisers from using those kind of tactics; at least, I know kids programming was being targeted to stop it.

It just shows how truly insecure certain elements of the "conservative" side of the aisle are, that they feel a need to attempt to insert their candidate in such a manner into the viewer's consciousness.

Of course, it may be happening in much the same way on the other side, and we just have not heard of it yet.
