After spending 2 hours explaining to a gentlemen why we can't give him a phone for free, i became increasingly angry.

I know i have vented about this before, but the sense of entitlement that people feel they have with cell phones baffles me. No other industry do people walk in and try and dictate how the buisness should work, what they are entitled to. I want someone to walk into their cable company and tell them they wont pay the monthly rental for their cable box, and to give them all the movie channels for free because they have been a customer for 20 years, or walk into your local grocery store, load up a cart and tell them that you shopped here for 8 years and you want this cart for free. Even better go to the ford dealership, tell them yuo have owned 5 fords and you want one for free.

While I am venting, you know what i hate, people who come in and say they have had a phone with AT&T for 30years......which is awesome since AT&T hasnt had cell phones that long.

I swear people take out their inability to go off on other services they use on cell phone people.

Lastly, dont walk into a cell phone store and say "fix this phone or im switchign carriers" you dont get good results.

You didn't get the memo? Cell phones are just an extension of road rage.

You have to find humor in those situations, otherwise...your in the wrong field.

Well in some ways the customer is always right. Its easier and more profitable to keep a customer you have than to try and get a new customer in all fields. Damn right I've called my cable company to get free shit ... after all I give them enough momey each month for me and my company. And when I bought my new car my girlfriend's mom reminded them she bought a car at the same place 8 years earlier, getting me another $500 off. If my Verizon phone broke, I'd expect them to fix it or stop charging me the monthly fee until it was working again. I'd of course treat them courteously as I asked, but expecting your utilities to provice a service you pay a lot of money for isn't unreasonable.

I bend over backwards for my clients. AMW has pulled me out of bed in the middle of the night, for The Daily Show I've picked up gear and did preproduction for free, and for my edit clients I always personally drop tapes off instead of using a courier service to save them money. Its a huge part of why I am so successful - in an environment like now you have to go the extra mile.

Which is FULLY understandable. The issue lies in Joe Q Public drops his phone in a lake, didnt get insurence which the rep begged him to get. (btw reps dont get paid any commission selling you insurence it just says the rep nightmares later in life) Now wants to come in and get a free phone. He's just got a phone 4 months ago, and isnt eligible for discounting. We tell him he can pay full price, or take this basic nokia phone for $40. They lose their minds and suddenly i'm the bad guy for letting them drop their phone in a lake.

As far as finding humor, I laugh at/with customers all day. the day of my original post in this thread was just a day of back-to-back-to-back crappy situations.

Should just stop offering subsidy and adjust the monthly rates accordingly. All of that confusion about the phones' cost and the bitterness about locked phones could easily be avoided if the business model were more straightforward.

I dunno man Comcast screwed up on my service 2 months ago after we'd just came back to them after a 1 year break. Leah told them we were leaving them again and not using their shit ever again b/c of the same screw ups....they gave us all premium channels free for a year if we'd stay. We opted to stay :) They screwed up pretty bad though and they knew it.

Leah is the queen at getting shit like this for free. She has a tongue of honey and some how manages to get fees waved left and right. It's a talent for sure, I wish I had it =\ She isn't beligerant like the dorks you work with though. I could not work retail or any kind of sales job....ever. I'd tell people exactly what I thought.

The phones would cost more than they do now. Which is 95% of the problems.

It's only a problem because people don't understand what they actually cost. For the average consumer, those subsidy prices might as well just say "SALE!!!"

Rule #1 in retail you're going to get the same service you give, goes either way for sales people or customers.

Back when I was stuck in retail-hell I'd bend over backwards for the customers who came in and treated me with at least a shred of diginity, the ones who didn't? "Sorry Sir/Ma'am we're out of stock on that" fuck em.

That being said, they really need to do away with these ungodly long contracts and just charge more for the phones. Sure people will be pissed at first, but in the end they still want that phone so they'll cough up the cash.

This is happening a lot now. The competition to retain cable customers is huge, and large concessions are being made by several cable companies to hang onto customers.

Grey I WANT A NEW IPHONE FREE CAUSE YOU HELPED ME ON THE BOARDS!!!!!

sorry temporary moment of insanity.

I called my cable company and said i was going toto switch and all they did was raise my rates because I do not want their dam digital phone. I am glad however TWC has decided not to charge on the ammount of bandwidth used versus just a flat fee. That would have been the day I stoped using the internet at home I think. I soend enought momey with them already.
