I laugh at my own country all the time.....when the stories are true. When someone changes the names in the story to make fun of my country however....it's not quiet as funny. Americans have no problem laughing at our own country....as the most successful comedians here are those who do such. We do however get much more enjoyment out of laughing at yours.
