I have been watching Fox News while reading the paper this morning, and almost fell out of the chair laughing when they showed clips from the Press Club dinner. Laura has some talent for stand-up comedy.
These are not direct quotes as my memory is not perfect:
'9:00 and Mr. Excitement here is asleep, <pause> and I am watching Desperate Housewives.'
'George has learned a lot about ranching since that first year, <pause> when he tried to milk a horse. <great comic pause> And it was a male one.'
She also mentioned going out with Cheney's wife, Condi Rice and one other to the Chippendales Club after George was asleep. She said she would not have brought it up, but Ruth Ginsberg and Sandra Day O'Connor saw them there.
She seemed very comfortable and had a great sense of timing in her one-liners. As much as I dislike this president, I do appreciate the ability to engage in self-deprecating humor at these dinners. It makes the ivory tower seem a bit less lofty.
