Iraqi soccer team beat Purtugal the other day. Portugal is a top-notch team, but apparently Iraq is making a name for itself now.
Any other fussball, votbal, football(european), soccer fans out there?
Favorite teams?
Mine are-- Inner Milan, Juventus, Liverpool, and Arsenal.
Not many Americans like soccer, its sad, because they don't consider it a "contact sport". Failure.

I have seen some huge soccer tackles that looked like it hurt like hell. Then again I have seen soccer wuss's trip on a blade of grass and run around holding there ass like they went to Halo's for dinner. Failure. You are right though. It is boring due to not enough action unlike my #1 sport, Hockey. God I can't wait for the World Cup at the end of the month.

I love soccer, I've been playing it all my life. I love hockey more, its so brutal, but I cannot play hockey because there aren't many places to go to play Hockey in Atlanta that I know of.
You might think that the small things are just the players being wusses, but you really have no idea what it feels like to have someone kick the shit out of your ankle or step on your calf, or even skim your ankles. It hurts like all hell. Luckily I've never broken any bones or had any serious injuries, but I got kicked in the head once and punched in the back of the head. Hurted lots.
BTW. does elren still play EQ? /huggles and lubbins to Elren.

inTer Milan, my friend :)
I used to be a soccer fan, then I realized how overhyped it was.
The only soccer I watch right now is women's soccer on the national level. Probably because it's an underdog sport, which most womens' sports are I guess, and mostly because I have a cousin that could break national level, who's 14. It makes for good conversations on family reunions at least.

...but I got kicked in the head once...Ouch! How'd you manage that?
It's really cool that the Iraqis (athletes) are getting off to such a good start. They must be doing so well because they know they aren't going to be tortured - or worse - if they lose. Hopefully this is the beginning of a brighter future for them and their people. :)

Yes, back on topic..Seeing that Iraq won is cool. Tey do not have to fear being killed just because they lost. NOT a failure! 16 seasons of hockey and 2 years of Junior A outta highschool. There might be a few of you who know what Junior A hockey is like..=) There is not a day that goes by that my knees don't scream at me. So you got kicked in the shin huh? How cute...=) Just teasing! As a defensmen I can't tell you how many times I have had a puck or a stick or a fist off my melon. My wife just stares at me when I start hobbling around. And im only 30...LOL Anyways, lets hope Iraq wins a few more...

Yes, because we all know soccer is the only place anyone will ever experience any of those.
As much as I don't care about soccer, it's good to see Iraq's team doing well.

The scouse
He is a northen monkey, and speaks with a weird accent that noone else from England understands, and they always end every sentence with a high pitched tone, as if they were asking questions all the time. Oh, and they always wear shell suits and have moustaches.

True, but we were discussing soccer. You get constantly kicked and stepped on in soccer. Just a thought -not trying to be sarcastic here- when do your ankles get mutilated everytime a player gets near you?
To whomever asked about me getting kicked in the head -- I was running in the opponents box hoping to get a header, the ball was crossed low, so i had to lean over a bit, the other guys foot beat me to it and proceded to make friends with my head.
We all know that hockey is way more hardcore than soccer and always will be, but there are some pretty nasty injuries you can get. Hockey sticks and pucks definately hurt way more. But hurray for the Iraqis. I said Failure cause they beat Portugal, ....I like Portugal. :(

My friend used to always tell me how gay soccer was, and how it was for pussies and women. He was the big bad football player and wrestler. Yet, wrestling is 2 men wearing skin tight singlets dry-humping the shit out of each other. Your call as to which is gay.

Soccer is a sport of endurance, skill, quickness. Football is a sport of quickness, strength, skill. Rugby is a sport of strength, quickness, skill, endurance and balls.

Wrestling is not ment for everyone thats for sure...deffinately isnt for a coward..gay or not. Its much more individualistic than a "team" sport. You against the enemy not you and 10 of your buddies.

I was thinking of trying wrestling when I was in middle school and then I talked to a friend of mine who was a wrestler. He told me how he used a move he called "5 on 2" once in awhile. Translated... he grabs the other guy's nuts. I decided to play football instead.

I used to do wrestling as a kid. Then I switched to judo, and later to soccer.
I guess the concept of tightly hugging grown men is holding appeal to me again though since Hubbe has half convinced me to crosstrain my Wing Chun Kung Fu with his Brazillian Jiu Jitsu, although I suspect it might be a ploy on his end in order to come into intimate contact with me.

It's Travis Junior from Reno 911 (http://www.comedycentral.com/tv_shows/reno911/), played by Ben Garant who is one of the writers(was also a member of The State (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0130421) on MTV in the mid 90s).

The symbol itself is chinese calligraphy surrounded by a pa-kua.
The pa-kua represents the cycle of life and all the states we find ourselves along the way. The calligraphy sign in the middle is the sign for "no" or "forbid", the four dots beneath it means "fire" or "emotions", in particular, negative emotions. Together they mean "No emotions" or "no fire" (in the extreme metaphorical sense), indicating that Martial Arts should be undertaken without Ego, Pride and Anger, and instructing students to check those at the door if they want to train with us.
The symbol is the symbol of the Simon Lau Centre, which is a center teaching Wing Chun Kuen Kung Fu, Qi Gong, Chinese Herbal Medicine and more. It's situated in London. I train with the Swedish branch and we only deal with the martial arts aspect of the Centre.

Rugby was my favorite sport to play- but like most people in the US, I wasn't exposed to it until I went to university. As such, when compared to players from other countries- we were not all that great. At all.
The hardest parts for most people from the US to grasp seem to be:
1) Play does not stop when someone is tackled
2) Crossing the goal line doesn't mean jack unless you touch the ball down.

i played rugby from when i was 4 until the age of 12 ^_^
over here, its american football that you have to wait for university to play, and really i'd say, from playing both, that they both take the same amount of courage. In rugby, people go out to get the ball. In Football, people go out to murder the player. The pads in football balance it nicely :)

I think it is less a matter of trying to kill people as it is:
More high speed open field tackles.

I played rugby and football in college. The difference between the two is really cardiovascular. Rugby is like full contact soccer. It takes a little more mental toughness, maybe a little less speed/strength.

Iraqi football players warn Bush
According to the monthly Sports Illustrated, Iraqi football players, who have performed exceptionally well at the Olympics, are warning US President George Bush not to use their success in his re-election campaign.
US media has touted the success of Iraq's under-23 team as it beat Portugal 4-2 and Costa Rica 2-0 and sailed through to the quarterfinals.
However, the sudden interest in the team - particularly from the US Republican re-election campaign platform - has irked some of its members.
"Iraq as a team does not want Mr. Bush to use us for the presidential campaign," Iraqi player Salih Sadir told SI.com.
"He can find another way to advertise himself."
Sadir has so far scored two goals for the team.
But some players went further: substitute Ahmad Manajid, who played as a midfielder in Wednesday's match against Morocco (1-2) told the monthly sports magazine "How will he meet his god having slaughtered so many men and women?"
"He has committed so many crimes."
Killed so many people
Manajid went on to say "I want to defend my home. If a stranger invades America and the people resist, does that mean they are terrorists?"
"Everyone [in Falluja] has been labeled a terrorist. These are all lies. Falluja people are some of the best people in Iraq."
According to Sports Illustrated, one of Manajid's cousin was a resistance fighter who was killed by US occupation forces. He allegedly told SI.com that he would have become a resistance fighter had he not been on the Olympic team.
The Iraqi team is to meet Australia
in the quarterfinals
Iraq's second coach, who filled the gap left behind when German manager Bernd Stange left the team due to security concerns, told SI.com that he believes US occupation forces destroyed everything in his country.
"My problems are not with the American people," Adnan Hamad told the sports monthly.
"They are with what America has done in Iraq: destroy everything. The American army has killed so many people in Iraq. What is freedom when I go to the [national] stadium and there are shootings on the road?
Not sure what it says, but it relates in a weird way

I love soccer, played it for 10 years. Varsity all 4 yrs through high school on a team that went to states every year for i think 9 straight years. I pray for soccer to become as popular here in the US as it is in Europe. Or at least the MLS getting a lot fucking better. Anyways my favorite teams are Riverplate(Salas~~wuwu~ and sponsered by Bud) and Arsenal (Henry is incredible)
Sorry if this message is kinda random, just read the first page and had to post cause I never see soccer posts :)

It says you can take any thread and find a way to twist it into your Bush hate campaign.
To a man, members of the Iraqi Olympic delegation say they are glad that former Olympic committee head Uday Hussein, who was responsible for the serial torture of Iraqi athletes and was killed four months after the U.S.-led coalition invaded Iraq in March 2003, is no longer in power.
Oops you mistakenly left out that part. The fact is that he's not going to be whipped and tortured when he gets home because we took out Saddam. Of course they're not happy to have us still in Iraq. The fact is if we pulled out right now like this moron is saying, things would be worse, not better.
