Our leaders speak about Iraq...Good news...war is almost over!!!!

Rep. Peter King : Conditions on the ground are different than what you see on television.—As we go through the city of Baghdad, it was like being in Manhattan. I’m talking about bumper to bumper traffic. Talking about shopping centers, talking about restaurants, talking about video stores, talking about guys–on the street corner, talking about major hotels. And so, at that moment, people must be amazingly resilient and you would never know that there was a war going on…

…in Mosul—I remember seeing news reports about roller coasters. Where you had two or three parking lots filled with their cars on a Sunday afternoon. Again, that’s not something you’d see on television, and at any given time a suicide bombers can walk into an amusement center, but the point I’m making is that the situation is more stable than you think….

Of course its much like Manhattan, I distinctly remember the wonderful firefights throughout the streets...the 5 or 6 car bombs going off every day...yes...its just like Manhattan...

Dick Cheney : Well, I think there’s some natural level of concern out there because in fact, you know, it wasn’t over instantaneously. It’s been a little over three years now since we went into Iraq, so I don’t think it’s surprising that people are concerned.

On the other hand, this government has only been in office about five months, five or six months now. They’re off to a good start. It is difficult, no question about it, but we’ve now got over 300,000 Iraqis trained and equipped as part of their security forces. They’ve had three national elections with higher turnout than we have here in the United States. If you look at the general overall situation, they’re doing remarkably well.

It’s still very, very difficult, very tough. Nobody should underestimate the extent to which we’re engaged there with this sort of, at present, the “major front” of the war on terror. That’s what Osama bin Laden says, and he’s right.

Yes...off to a good start...that is a good start to a civil war...but hey...a good start is a good start. WOW...over 300,000 trained security personnel...of course there are a few intermingled death squads and insurgents in the ranks...but they look good...and thats what counts.
Yes, they are doing remarkebly well...remarkebly well while dodging suicide bombers and 7.62mm rounds.

Rick Santorum : "As the hobbits are going up Mount Doom, the Eye of Mordor is being drawn somewhere else," Santorum said. "It's being drawn to Iraq and it's not being drawn to the U.S. You know what? I want to keep it on Iraq. I don't want the Eye to come back here to the United States."

Good analogy Rick...I was talking to a Marine who just returned from Ramadi...and he said...there were hobbits all over the place, but the Marines are diligintly looking for that ring and they will find it soon!!

I'm not pissing on anything, I'm pointing out the totally ridiculous statements made by desperate candidates and a delusional vice president.

The dems have offered a strategy for Iraq, I believe the guys name is John Murtha, he has a few years of experience when it comes to the military and a few years of experience in fighting a war.

As much as one can say that Kerry was not a great candidate for president, it turns out two years later he was dead on accurate about the situation in Iraq.

Bad news is created from bad strategy. Delusional statements by these government officials do nothing to serve the good of our military nor the good of the country, it is simply damaging and disrespectful to the troops on the ground and to every american.

Actually this morning I was watching CNN and there were a lot of Republican senators and congressmen talking about how we need to get the fuck out ASAP. Let me see if I can find names ...

Yep, it seems to be that a majority of republicans are now expressing unpatriotic ideas.

perceptional per·cep'tion·al adj.

Just because a Representative went through Baghdad, and didn't see a car bomb going off, he percieves the situation as stable.

And because five or six months after the fledgling government has taken control, there isn't peace, Democrats percieve the situation as hopeless.

Heres an informed opinion or perception:

FORMER US secretary of state James Baker was visibly shocked when he last visited Iraq, and said the country was in a "helluva mess", options under consideration would represent reversals of US policy - withdrawing American troops in phases, and bringing neighbouring Iran and Syria into a joint effort to stop the fighting.

A third possibility was under consideration - to concentrate on getting stability in Iraq, and stop aiming to establish a democracy there.

Perception cannot be informed.
It can be skewed, however.
