Heh, I bought a bunch of that yesterday when it went under $5.

It's very cool how the parties involved can trace it back, at least their logs were turned on.
Don't blame Google, blame the originator of the article for not including simple meta data, it would have subverted this debacle in the first place. It's a digital world, these types of things are going to occur where legacy data formats exist and persist.

The creator of the article putting the date in big letters at the top of the page is at fault for Google re-reading the article from 6-years ago and posting is as new?
I don't blame Google per say, but people who post stuff on the internet aren't always going to know all the nuances of meta tags and so forth. You can't expect the world to know that, but Google SHOULD expect old information will be revisited and should plan accordingly.

Maybe Google needs to improve or enact page scraping algorithms on older content.
Still, if you own an online publication and don't understand simple things like meta data then your business is mismanaged to say the least. It's one of the core technologies/concepts behind the business.

Google is great at sussing out content dates, free form. The problem was that the Sun Sentinel linked to the old story, intermixed with current news, on a page that claimed to be current.
