I don't think I can say much about this yet, but it's as novel as it looks in the demonstration video.

The real-time updates hold up even across oceans and with a dozen people on the same page, which is impressive.

It's difficult to keep up with an inbox full of them though. Especially when each may have many participants updating and re-marking the document new. I'm not entirely sure that this could replace email/IM for people who aren't willing to basically participate in a real-time messageboard. It may end up being something that appeals a lot more to the kind of people who work at Google than anyone else.

I can see it being the realization of that "office messaging" thing various companies having been failing to supplant AIM and MSN with for fifteen years. With more than 10 or so people in your focus it's very hard to keep up with any meaningful flow, but if you're in a tight context/content group already, it could be great.
