So.. Basically they are saying the EULA doesn't apply to them, and they can do what they want to? I still don;t understand why SOE doesn't really smack these peopel hard.. But they will stay in business as long as people keep buying from them i suppose

Gotta love a free economy.
I actually think it's kind of neat and well, to be honest, all this ebaying actually helps Sony keep it's subscriptions up, so why would they want to stop that? :)

I'd be surprised if he got much cash. I think most people fail to realize how little "equity" in a private company is usually worth. Especially one with absolutely no real capital.
At one point in my life, I was worth over $25,000,000 on paper; due to similar "equity" in a private company. My actual, liquid compensation was less than 6 figures though.
He's staying on as operations, because probably the vast majority of his "money" in the deal depends on IGE's growth and success. I'd say it's a strategic move on his part to diversify away from EQ, since Sony is rumored to be getting into legit plat/character sales soon.
The reality of the situation is probably almost the opposite of what everyone thinks when they read that press release.

Saw this posted on another board and found it oddly appropriate -

Because if they lose, and it is possible since EULAs are pretty damn iffy, if they LOSE and the court says "These people who play DO own these virtual items, and have the right of transferrence" they would be so completely fucked that they would just have to shut down the servers. Suddenly, lost items due to bugs, or database or design flaws means that someone has lost a tangible item that has a market value. They've suddenly lost money, money the companies will have to reimburse. All of a sudden, the companies have to support their shit. As protectors of the digital property of someone else, every single bit that represents something with a monetary value is now a liability to the company who provides it. The effect would be monstrously bad, and would swirl the MMOG industry even farther down the toilet than it already is.
