I'm not well acquainted with contemporary music, but from what I've listened to I'd have to go with The Doors.

What standard are we going with? Cause this thread should be called ... "what is your favorite band of all time"
Naked City ... for sheer diversity and virtuosity.

Maiden puts on a hella good live show as does AC/DC.
But Maiden would have to be my all time Fave band.

Iron Maiden.
There's just something about hearing 250,000 fans sing louder than Bruce Dickinson himself on the Rock In Rio DVD. Get a 5.1 setup and turn the rear speakers all the way up and skip to Fear Of The Dark.

I am particularly fond of Led Zeppelin myself. I am surprised no one has put forth the Beatles yet though.
One other band I have always secretly liked is Glenn Miller. Something about swing appeals to me for some strange reason.

The Dixie Chicks......but not because of their looks or their music.
Seriously, Ac/Dc and aerosmith have great live shows. Rush not bad at all either.
aerosmith have great live shows.
If i had to pick a band i had to watch for the rest of my life, this would be the one hands down. :)
Not a big fan of her music or anything, but Tina Turner puts on one of the best shows i have ever seen also.

Hmmm..
Depends on the time period.
In terms of influence, I'd say (from most recent to oldest)
Nirvana
The Ramones
Led Zepplin
The Beatles
Shewdogg

Beach Boys

I'd remove Nirvana from Esbat's list, put Sex Pistols next to the Ramones, and squeeze Velvet Underground in there somewhere.
With Clash, Doors, Sabbath and Floyd getting honorable mention.

Thor-
The Ramones influenced the Sex Pistols' sound to the point I'd argue that you can't have the Sex Pistols (or the Clash, or a host of other punk bands) without the Ramones.

I dunno, waking up to a muted Britney Spears video still make me happy.
Considering I have three mixed Alice in Chains CD's in my car, I feel it's rather aparent who I would view as GOAT (thanks L2!)

I am not sure there is a greatest band of all times but I am suprised no one mentioned the Rolling Stones or Jimi Hendrix

p.s. - The Stones were good sometimes. Flashes of brilliance in a pool of sludge.

Supertramp since I was 7 years old and listened to "Crime of the Century" at my cousins house.
Noteables--Journey, Floyd, Foreigner, Eagles, and yes, even Elton John (before the '80's)

grateful dead shows were quite a bit of entertainment late 80s and early 90s. Jerry Garcia loved his work.

i'd have to go with sedlighetsroteln.. if you can call them one group... otherwise: looptroop!
Journey is pretty badass.
I think Steve Perry was the greatest lead singer of all time. That man could blow.
2nd,is that guy from Queensryche ,Geoff Tate,he was an incredible singer.

Queensryche is my all time favorite band. Best live show I have ever seen.
Led Zeplin is probably the most influential of all time.Pretty much every band from the 70's on up hs been influenced one way or another by those guys.
Elton John has the most staying power. He has been putin out hits for a long time. Live In Australia is one of my favorite all time albums.

Operation: Mindcrime.. so own
And AIC: Facelift.. both pretty summed up my musical tastes in highschool.
With a healthy smattering of Led Zep.. the box set was mandatory.
How about The Who.
They kick so much ass live its just silly

I think I said Black Sabbath at the begining of this thread. But, the more I think about it the band I listened to the most. That spent the most titm ein my tape decks in highschool and beyond would have to be Danzig/Misfits/Samhain.

11-13-2003, 11:14 PM
The greatest band in the world! Morris Day and tha motha fuckin' Time! :rollin
Seriously though, I must go with... Pink Floyd, but my most honorable mention goes out to Ted Nugent. The Motor City mad man will put on the greatest show, then rant about his radical political views in his free time. Hey, if Arnold can be the governor of California, can't the 'Nuge run Michigan?
Selwen Soulgazer
11-14-2003, 07:39 AM
Jessie! now Jerome! Yeth! Morris day owned :rollin
I listened to Danzigs first 3 albums,Samhain and the misfits a lot back in the day too.Thats good stuff.
I got my first taste of Queensryche on the Operation:Livecrime Tour. Wow what a show.

Tough one, but I'd have to go with either Black Sabbath or the early Offspring.

Hendrix sucked?
Die Zehn.
Jimi Hendrix/Eagles would come close...but the band I'd have to go with is AC/DC.

Yeah, The Who is both a great studio band and an unbelievably kick ass live band.
But if this list was about live bands, mine would be totally different:
KISS
Rammstein
SoaD
The Who
Ted Nugent
Now, I love KISS but a lot of their recorded stuff is so cheesy its sick, but live they own all. On the flip side I loathe SoaD's recorded music, but I have to admit; they put on a killer live show...
But no, really, I'm sticking with The Who on this one.

I'd have to go with AC/DC for best live show I've seen, with Ted Nugent 2nd and the Grateful Dead getting an honorable mention just for their crazy followers and an inspiring "fire on the mountain" that went on for about 30 min.
Worst Live band had to have been Pearl Jam...the Jam in the name was pure irony considering every single song sounded like it was right off the album.
Best non-live band I'd have to say is Dave Mathews Band, excellent mellow music. Honorable mention goes to AMG for the classic Bitch Better Have My Money.
