A year late. But about fooking time, eh.
Just bought a Radeon 9800 in preperation. Bring on the physics gun (had a little play with it in the hacked version...the best thing since, uh, anything)!

Damn, with EQ2 and HL2 coming out next month, I'll have to revert to hermit mode to get the most game playing time in. :D

H2 and WoW are what i'm waiting on. Already preorder 2 H2 games, one for me and one for the fiance, now all i have to do is get the wireless adapter for MY xbox in his room and we'll be good to go.

HL2 > Halo2
no x-box here so I wont be playing the lesser of the two (even if it were released on pc). The character models on Halo2 appear "cookie-cutter" to me.
D3 > Halo2 for that matter, I enjoy D3 a lot. Any opinions how Halflife2 will compare to Doom3? Do you think it will be better, it seems that the story lines are very similar.

I hear they busted the turd who hacked into Valve and blessed us all with a 1 year delay for HL2. Asswipe.

Well, if you look at how halflife compared to quake2, and doom2 as far as just on a storyline basis only, it blew it away (imho)
Then gameplay, the AI was better, the graphics were better, it was just a better game.
I fully expect halflife two to rape Doom 3 when it comes to game play and storyline, just looking at Counterstrike:Source makes my panties wet

^ i figured the same but HL2 is taking for fucking ever, so i purchased Doom 3 and was impressed by it. it seemed that all the "moblettes" in the game were all triggered so it was relatively easy to memorize where everything was coming from and quicksave and prepair for the point-blank shotgunning for the win. I hope there is more to HL2 than just running through and finding all the "trigger" locations. speaking of the standalone game portion of course, i know nothing of building mods.

Are you kidding me? Quake2 is one of the best games ever in that aspect whereas Halflife was just mediocre.
And the whole notion of loving a game for the graphics is just silly, graphics shouldn't be that important :(

yea, halflife hardly beat out quake2 on gameplay, halflife was the basis of alot of great games though, seeing as i still play CZ from time to time
i'm already over with HL2, with all the sudden delays, and the fighting between valve and vivendi, with the release of hte game alot of the fun comes with expectation, that fun is kinda dried up now, i'll wait till i can get a HL2 cd with out having to stand in line

Are you kidding me? Quake2 beating half-life? Who the hell plays quake2 anymore? Hundreds and thousands of people still play half-life. Honestly, if you played both, how could you like quake2 over half-life?
trimlock
10-26-2004, 04:40 PM
actually whos playing half life? i don't see any games other then 50 being played currently
and i see more then 350 quake2 servers still up, all being ctf? what the hell kind of crack are you smoking? i wouldn't even have to try to find a quake2 server still and i liked quake2 over half life due to the massive fun of having more then 8 people on the server and it not being crowded

Quake 2 is amazingly popular still. Mostly because Quake 3 is a joke...but hey.
Pretty much nobody plays Half-Life. Alot of people play DoD and CS maybe, but those are entirely different games based on the same engine.
Plus the Quake2 soundtrack >>>>>>>>>> Half-Life soundtrack.

at this point i can honestly say that i won't even try the game.. talk about killing the anticipation.

Then you check all the other half-life mods and you see thousands and thousands of servers. A half-life mod is still half-life, just a different feel to it. Original half-life never was never meant to be a multiplayer game, hell they didn't even have ctf for it. You can spend days and days just trying to play through all the great hl mods, who the hell even hears about quake2?
Single player half-life > single player quake2.
multiplayer hl mods > anything quake2.
all though i agree, hl didn't really have a soundtrack.

Anyone ever used to play Team Fortress Classics?
Blew away a lot of my school years playing that game, bloody rocked.

I used to play that one quite a bit as well. Wow, just thinking about it brings back some memories, that sure was a long time ago though. Must be about 5 or 6 years since I played that game. What class did you play most?

so... by your reasoning i guess half life is just a different feel to quake1? so in your own words i guess quake1 just beats out everything (that is your opinion of course)

Quake2 is still unmatched in deathmatch. Quake 3 and UT2004 are very close, but not quite as good. Hooray for Quake2! :D Q2DM1 4 lyfe! Half Life 2 will rock too, well I hope it will, because I'm running out of games to play :(

i have no idea what your talking about. but a half-life mod is still half-life. you ever play diffrent versions of sports like basketball? like horse or 21? It's still basketball just diffrent feel to it. just like a mapchange or an expansion, looks diffrent but still is the same game.

Shadowhands....Half-Life used basically the same graphics engine as Quake1 did, just slightly less brownish. So by your reasoning that Counter-Strike and what not are just modified Half-Lifes...Half-life is just modified Quake.
So really, Quake > all...which is in fact a true statement.

- Engineer baby. Nothing beat a good turret emplacement.
Gemini

Haha, engineers always kept giving me a headache! I used to play scout and with a little bit of luck the opposing clan would have no engineer (this did happen on occasion, believe it or not). If they didn't, I could win our victory almost single handedly, if they did, I just had to change class.
I think what TFC excelled at was map design though, I have never played better maps than those for that game, although I can't remember their names anymore. Shame on me.

didn't engineers get some pretty bad ass grenades too?

2fort and well were my favs :(
Spy/Demoman were my fav classes. Nothing like setting up a pipe bomb trap infront of the entrance to their base and waiting for them to run out, or looking like you're an opposing teams medic and going to heal them, but instead, stab them in the back :D
Haloface
11-02-2004, 05:54 PM
2fort was insanely cool, no matter how basic it was in design. There are a lot of maps out there, for a lot of games, that have used the same basic features IMO.
There was also that extra ownage one where you had to escort the president through some streets or something, and a warehouse. That was usually fun, with 50 bodyguards.
Damn.. can barely remember the maps either. Fun times though.
(if you played heavy machine gun, you have no skillz dued omgosh!11)

no hes talking about Hunted, anyway TFC owns extremly hard, my personal choice for class is either Eng for def or Medic for capping.
dustbowl and well are two extremly leet maps too, not to mention casbah
Edit: forgot to mention how leet soldier is for owning snipers on 2fort!

er lets look at it this way.
pick up quake2, you get to play the crappy single player (did it have a story line?) and the great mutliplayer
pick up half-life, you get the great single player (anyone who has played the whole way through can tell you its a great single player), and you get to play all the great mods, natural selection (my fav, kind of like 1st person starcraft), team fortress classic, counter-strike, vampire slayer, all the other not so much played mods.
all i was trying to say is that replay value of quake 2 vs half-life, half-life wins hands down. if your gonna pick up a game get half-life and all the great free mods that come with it. even though it may be a mod and maybe a diffrent game, your still going to need half-life to play it. your not gonna get any where near the amount of gameplay with quake2 compared to half-life.

You do realized that Half-life 1 took 5 years to make and got delayed multiple times, therefore almost all of those arguements could be used against HL1 right?
Half-life came pretty much out of no-where and became one of the biggest games of all time. Hype is not related to how good a game is.
As for not standing in line... i guess you'll get it about 6pm the day it comes out then? I've never had trouble getting new big games, since certain stores like Best Buy always stock massive amounts of them.

eeh my so so run http://strike9.com/Clobby/fy_snow0000.JPG
acually HL II is much more CPU dependent than GPU dependant.. doesnt matter if got the most hardcore X800PRO or 6800GT.. unless you got a processor that can harness that its not gonna matter.
