My girlfriend is Irish, and on a recent trip back to visit her grandmother she brought some Tesco Tikka sauce. There is nothing nearly that good in the US that I've found. Do you have a Tesco nearby? Would I be able to pay you to ship some to me?

OR, everyone else, are you from the US and know of a decent Tikka Masala sauce that one could buy? OR a recipe? I've tried a ton and never had as much luck as either going to a resturant, or the Tesco brand.

I absolutely love Indian food, the chicken tikka masala dish being my absolute favorite coupled with naan bread... my whole family is hooked on it and was raised on it in frequent restaurant visits. In Birmingham, Alabama, I suggest the Taj India restaurant and in Atlanta the Haveli Indian Cuisine restaurant (located in Marrieta).

As for standalone sauces bought in a store, my we've always seemed to have luck with World Market stores which generally feature a good variety of masala and other sauces, but no specific brands come to mind. The fruit chutneys are great too.

Ooooh. That's close. I don't trust canned chicken, but the sauce is delicious. I bet they have just the sauce on there somewhere, thanks.

Why don't you make some yourself?

I've made a ton of different recipes, none ever taste the same. If you know a good recipe, I'll try that too. But tonight we finished the Tesco brand sauce and it was amazing. (Tesco is a supermarket chain in Europe, like Giant here, they even had one in Prague when I lived there).

Look at the ingredients on the bottle, then just go at it you'll be surprised at how close you can get I'm sure.

That's it! $13 for 28 day shipping, lol, may just need to wait until we fly back to Ireland. Thanks though.

Tesco is a British chain, and it's just expanding into Asia at the moment. Kind of our equal to Walmart.

I always thought their curry sauces sucked though!

Glad you found it Kel :P

I agree. Your best bet is to go to your local big box book store and go up and down the huge section of recipe books they have.

Pick a book that teaches you the basics, with East Indian food that starts with sauces and goes up from there.

Some of the spices used for East Indian food aren't in the forefront at your local grocery store, but with some investigation in the yellow pages or the internet you kind find everything you need easily.

A couple of years back I started into Thai cuisine. I started with the most basic sauces and built up from there. I can now make a wicked Beef Panang that rivals anything I could ever buy in a store and comes very, very close to the Thai restaurants that we frequent.

For East Indian food start off real simple with a Channa Masala (Chickpeas in a sauce), its soooo easy to make and will start you down the path.

Remember, shop the perimeter of the grocery store and avoid the isles AS MUCH as possible. Your palette and your tummy will thank you.

Cheers,
