The rememberance in Bayeux by the cathedral is beautiful and pretty emotional. Make sure you watch it. Shame it's utterly marred by Christianity, but there ya go.
Some sad military trumpets and a few good songs/prayers.
It's sort of a sad thought that this will be the last official celebration/anniversary. As one American veteran said "I'm getting near death. I'm 82 son, and I'm not getting any younger!"
I also think Chirac was making moves on my Monarch. Far too close for my liking. Get a girlfriend Chirac!!
Elizabeth II also visited Juno Beach to remember the Canadians and British, and I think Bush and Chirac visited Omaha in rememberance of the Americans.
It's also brilliant to see the Russians there, and the German chancellor. I think for the first time as well? Which is, obviously, a great thing.
So here we go. Here's a thought for all who died, for those who lived, and for those who endured. When freedom and democracy was restricted to Britain, her former colonies, and the United States, they fought on. To those, whoever, wherever, stood up to Nazi Germany and her allies, we give thanks.
And MAYBE a little prayer!
I think the main event is as 12.15 at Arromanches. Here's hoping Bush doesn't stand up and start comparing this all to the war on Iraq. Or I'magonna vomit.
