Saw this and figured I'd share. Pretty fucking impressive, to be quite honest.

In frigid northeastern China, in the city of Harbin is hosting its 26th annual International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival. Massive buildings built of ice from the frozen surface of the nearby Songhua River, large scale snow sculptures, ice slides, festival food and drinks can be found in several parks in the city. At night, visitors who endure the bitter cold will see the lights switched on, illuminating the sculptures from both inside and outside. This year's festival opened yesterday, January 5th, and will remain open until some time in February. Collected here are several photos from just before the festival, and of the opening night. (31 photos total (http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/01/harbin_ice_and_snow_sculpture.html))

Very impressive. I guess they must be using chemlights on the inside? How do they keep it from melting if they are using electricity?

Probably just insulated LED lighting or something like that. As much heat as those lights generate, its still like really fucking cold there.

Bloody hell, that's mental. I bet the central heating bills are through the roof ;P

If you look at picture #16 you can see the image I linked above is hardly their largest sculpture too - and get a much better sense of the scale. Its unbelievable people could build something like that.
