Anyone in this, just got into beta, its pretty fun, has a diablo feel to it, nice visuals, and decent game play.

I applied for the beta awhile ago. Would love to give my 8 series card a try with this.

I've been hearing both good and bad about it. I'm guessing it really depends on what you expect from a game.

I'd personally love to give it a shot, but I've already got my next game purchase set for Tabula Rasa. Can't get enough of that shit hehe! :)

It does really depend on what you expect from a game. It's not an mmo, and will never have a role like WoW, EQ or any other of those games do/did.

It's essentially a first person diablo, or third person if you play one of the melee characters a la resident evil, devil may cry, etc.

I've been in for a while and I love playing the FPS classes, and the quest/item/skill system should be very familiar to any Blizzard fans.

They've done a lot of character wipes, so I don't really know how much game is actually there, but many of the mechanics of the game are highly adapted from Diablo 2. Waypoints, random instances, etc.

It's a really fun game and I pre-ordered, but I don't think its going to be something most people will want to invest more than 10 hours a week into or so. It's just not that kind of game. The fact that all healing is self-healing should be a telling sign of that.

Yeah hehe. It's kinda why I'm sticking with Tabula Rasa.

It's a refreshing change from the fantasy setting. It's fast paced, the graphics are great. The need to group is slowly being introduced into the game, but only for instances. For the most part, the game is indeed soloable. If you want to play by yourself, it might require a little grinding on your part to get a few more levels to handle the challenges, or you can group and do the instances earlier.

If you get the chance to play this game, you might be pleseantly surprised, I know I was.

Will it be deep like EQ....I dunno, too early to tell, but the story is cool, the action is PACKED, the loot is plentiful, the humor is there (hearing the announcement over the loadspeaker for Post Traumatic Death Disorder briefings cracked me up) and with each tweak and patch, the game just keeps getting better and better. It's definately worth your time to look.

Tabula Rasa was too slow, and repetative, didnt feel like there was much to it

(woot 1000 post, im officially a loser)

You have got to be the only person I've ever heard say that TR is slow. That game is so fast paced you can't even chat with other people unless it's voice chat. And I have something like 4 different character in their high teens/20s and I rarely play :p

It's a fun and different game I'll play it after release some mainly b/c all my friends have jumped ship from other MMOs to play it. I'm just not really into PC games at the moment.

slow as in boring, i ran back in forth for 3 levels. Also, ammo is too expensive

Yes, I agree with you in the early beta days ammo was costly. Allot has changed in the game though, allot :)

Anyone else play the demo of Hellgate? I'm not sure if I'm stuck, missing something, or the demo just ends not gracefully at all.

the level cap is 20, and the content through 20 is all taht is there.

I am having a blast, the story line is very linear at times, so you may just have missed something.

I has been a LONG time since i played a game for 5+ hours in one sitting, and i do with this game.

In the demo, the story line just doesn't continue after I get to the first station, and I can't pass level 5. Yet, it lets me keep going back to the same 2-3 zones indefinitely, without mentioning anything about it being the end of the demo.

It's just odd. Seems like pretty much every demo in the history of video games lets you know when you're done and it's time to buy or quit.

hmm, if its the single player demo i think its just a teaser, i got in on the online beta via preorder

This got mostly bad reviews, and I'm seeing mixed stuff from players. People bash it because it's not like Diablo 2, but the complaints are stuff like monotonous combat and environments. Didn't D2 consist solely of running through the same areas over and over to get loot? This Best Buy giftcard is burning a whole in my pocket - I'm thinkin about picking up two copies of this today for me and my brother. Anyone else playing or have any comments?

I would like to see a response to that too. I'm looking for something to blow my time on now. I have been playing a bunch of guitar hero 3 for a couple months now, and obviously I still raid in EQ. I loved diablo/2/baldur's gates/champions of norrath and that ilk. I'd love another game like that in a different setting. If this delivers on that, I'll have to pick it up.

After some more reading I decided to pick this up. Andy from GameInformer (Used to be Hemmingway in EW) gave it a solid 8.5, and I tend to agree with his reviews. The biggest thing I've found is that people say it's fun but you need people to play with. I'm going to be leveling up with my brother, so if anyone else decides to get this just let me know and we'll get some grindage going on.

Played the game for about a month with 3 or 4 other guys. It was fun... but, just kind of got old. My biggest gripe about the game was the UI. Nothing stays set when you zone, everything closes, and you can't customize anything. Gets to be a real PITA. There really isn't a social aspect to the game unless you have your premade groups with people that you know. I found it odd that they didn't have at least one zone that wasn't instanced... one of the main tube stations or something.

The game can be fun, I just wouldn't expect to play the game for much more than a month... which doesn't justify the cost of the game IMO.

once version 1.0 come out things will get a lot better, the game is basically waiting for pvp to make it uber.

Hit me up in game IGN: Swifthawk, got a pretty decent guild of people.

Put in about 6 hours today. Liking it a lot so far. I can see where it could get old, but having someone to play with is making it great for me. Plus I love trying to get loot. I'm onthe server that starts with an 'S'. Ainwein!

Greystone Thorngage
12-27-2007, 09:56 AM
Shulgoth is the server. The biggest issue is when you "beat" the pve content, you get to start over at the level you are at just everything is harder and you continue to get better gear.

That's how D2 worked as well. I still don't see why people aren't so upset, although I will say that the environments do get old very quickly. While they have dynamic dungeons they use the same tilesets for almost every level.

Still playing this. If you are a loot whore like myself and are not looking for anything too deep I'd highly recommend this game. I get so excited whenever a unique or legendary item drops :o

I got this last weekend, though I've only been playing it through solo first. Having a bunch of fun with it.

I don't think the storyline is worth shit. There isn't much point to running it first solo I could see someone getting burned out by the time they get to multiplayer. Make a char online on Shulgoth and post the name, I'll help you out and I've been saving lots of my low level weapons/augments.

the end of the story is good.

So I just finished the single player game last night. I'll probably play through it on nightmare just to see how much more difficult it is, and I'll probably at least test out each other class ( I used a sword master).

I tried to make a guardian to play online, but the server lag I got was just too much for it to be an enjoyable time. Three second lag each time I wanted to swing my weapon/activate a skill/ or pick up a drop just wasn't condusive to having a good time.

ainwein
01-15-2008, 03:06 PM
Lag has never really been that bad for me. I'm a Blademaster so I have some left over Templar gear that I will save for you. Just let me know your char name when you roll online.

Taleren Bloodsong

Is your character named ainwein? and if so, how do I send a direct tell within the game?

ainwein
01-15-2008, 04:04 PM
Yeah, it's Ainwein. Just type /w ainwein texthere. You can add me on friends but only when I'm online (No idea why).

/invite if you want to invite me to a party. If you push 'P' you can view a list of parties you can join for various things.

/channelleave and /channeljoin are the chat commands. If you are in trade-8, for example, and want to join trade-1, type /channelleave trade and then /channeljoin trade-1. There is more chat activity in the '1' chat as opposed to the later numbers. To chat you simply type /thename of the channel. So for 'chat' channel you type /chat, 'trade' /trade, and so on.

Also, if you go to the official hellgate website they have a trading forum where you can post on auctions to buy or sell items that people find. If you do not advance your character on certain quests you can farm bosses over and over, like Shulgoth in Act 1.
