Sounded like that computer was in a wind tunnel...

Get me one of those new phase coolers, I could prolly boot my system that fast, with a new install of windows it takes like 10 seconds tops right now. GG AMDx2.

But once I install all the necessary shit to keep malware out, it takes like 20 seconds, /cry

I'd like to know what kind of setup the guy has though.

yeah saw a review for one of those, great for using as your scratch drive with Adobe products. The one I saw had an external power supply though, to prevent accidental loss of data

Funny the Computer Room where I work doesn't seem loud to me. 300+ servers, 6 A/C units, and 6 PDUs on the raised floor.... I'm either deaf or way to used to background noise :( I blame the Army!

Yeah, I'm used to the noise as well. We need a wall between the tech office and the NOC.

The real question is who actually reboots their computer more than once a month or so?

The real question is who actually reboots their computer more than once a month or so?

Personal? Daily b/c I keep it powered off while not on it.

server? Windows? haha some daily b/c of the shitty apps on them.

server? Unix? I have a few that haven't been rebooted in almost 2 years.

server? VMS? We have one that has been up for nearly 4 years.

The only reason those beasts get rebooted are for firmware or OS updates that require reboots otherwise they'd hum right along with no need to reboot :) I think the record for a Windows based server here is close to 6 months. Really though it's not the OS or the hardware it's the stupid poorly written apps.

Only time I reboot my Win2003 server is when some lameass at Microsoft finds another gaping hole in security and releases a patch. Otherwise it never goes down.

But then I'm also only running concrete software like Filemaker Server, and Quickbooks on it.

Yeah, my 2003 and 2000 servers only reboot when there's critical updates or the power goes out for too long. Never noticed any instability running them.
