"We're kinda being trained to be warriors," said another, "only in a funner way."

and sadly, that shows the educational level of these nutjobs.

I've been seeing more of this sort of thing lately, particularly the use of militant language and teaching among some evangelicals, especially directed toward the youth. A more concrete representation of this "onward Christian soldier" viewpoint is the creation of Left Behind: Eternal Forces (http://pc.ign.com/articles/630/630210p1.html).

I know it's easy to dismiss this sort of thing as "crazy people in BFE" but this kind of attitude is a lot more ingrained than people think. The first stage of developing a radicalized religious state is language like "Soldier of Christ" or what-have-you. Once that base framing exists, there really isn't a huge number of steps towards paramilitary organizations.

The predominant reason these haven't had any traction since prohibition is the same reason we survived both world wars without damage -- the Atlantic and the Pacific separate these people from anyone they can really get mad about unless they find something to turn on locally (witness the hullabloo over gay marriage, which has to be the single biggest non-fucking-issue ever, or go back a bit further for Prohibition).

How long before we have a line in vBookie regarding Soldiers of Christ vs. Muslims? This is basically a Christian variation of the Muslim schooling, and as they have their religious leaders on the fringe promoting extreme ideas, so will we have our fringe folks doing the same.

Onward Christian Soldiers, onto the next Crusades.:(
