Not the only one. When a flame was a flame without a moderation shit-storm. And we'd throw politics in just for fun.

LOL, aye, and everyone played the one game. It was awesome actually running into people in game that were big on the forums. I dunno, just don't get that sense of community. Vanguard has the stuff to do it, but it's reputation because of it's crappy launch is holding people back. SOE has done some really cool stuff with that game and I'm hoping that after it's first expansion, people might see it for the great game it is. That and buddy keys of course hehe.

In the meantime, I'm kicking it old school and playing some EQ for a break. I've been playing Vanguard pretty hard the past few months. Not that I'm not enjoying it, but just figured something different would help whet the appetite for some more high level shinannigans. Then maybe, just MAYBE, I'll hit 50 crafting and can proceed into diplomacy LOL.

Yeah, the old games had a better sense of community for some reason.

In UO or The Realm you knew everyone, but they were much smaller scale. Everquest you knew the people / guilds on the server and had the forums and stuff, and since then it just seems to dissipate as people travel from game to game so rapidly.

I will now continue in the de-railing of this thread.

/Amen Binuven.

I agree that the days of relatively tight-nit EQ community days were great. Nowadays people switch to every new game that hits the shelves, possibly get infatuated with it (temporarily, of course), and then proceed to say how it wasn't perfect and forget about it, only to jump to the next hyped game shortly after.

I'm with Binuven in saying that Vanguard has so much potential and is more like the old EQ (the good things) than anything else out there, community and all, imo. It should not be judged completely on a poor launch.

You might recall that the description of RL NAG, back on EZboard included "flame the opinions, not the person". That goes all the way back to when I was just a moderator. You act as if I'm making up new rules to interfere with you reliving your nostalgic glory days, but that's not the case at all here.

I've stuck to what the rules always were, in that case, because they worked.

I highly encourage you to spew non-sequitur flames to your heart's content in NAG or FFA. I'm not going to stop anyone from doing that.

Here, I'll move it and make it easy for you!

Oh for godsake unclench you big tart.
Otherwise you're in danger of having stopped being part of this community a long time ago San.

- I dunno, I think that will always be the way. Perhaps we'll still be saying such in twenty years? I'm sure I'll kids will laugh at the simplicity of EQ - but we'll all remember how bloody tight it was. Its most attractive feature was far and away the community, and I had a fantastic ride with my guild. Without them, and the people on this forum, I think EQ would have been equally as boring after a while as all these other latest games.

Yeah, I'm back in the game now and it's like going through your old high school. Great memories, but they are times gone by. Kinda sad really, but life goes on.

We might laugh at graphics that will certainly be outdated in 20 years (some would argue they're outdated right now), but simplicity of gameplay?

Do people laugh at, say, Super Mario Bros. 3 (released 20 years ago!) for being simple? Or better still, Nethack, which is over 20 years old?
