It was a large combination of things: His accent, the assumptions- but most of all, it was the "we're having trouble because our young people go to church" bit.

The youth DO believe in limited government, that's why they won't vote for a conservative president in the next election. The current "conservative" administration haven't limited government at all. Look at the deficit incurred over the last 8 years.

His inflection is hilarious. "Billionaire sugar-daddy George Soros!" Oh no! Conservatives have a "visceral distrust of government intervention." "...Topics that don't presently affect our lives, like healthcare..."
Hotair is an impressively apropos name for this setup.

Glad you put quotes around "conservative" regarding this administration.

Well obviously this current adminisitration isn't conservative in any sense of the word. Neither really was Reagan, he drove the deficit to all time highs when he was a President either (at least as far as fiscally).
It's sad when you have to get a "spend-happy" Democrat into office just to have a hope of balancing a budget.

Reagan drove up the deficit with spending on defense related stuff, but he did hold true with the old-school conservative ideal of less government. Dubya has run the country as a business, putting money into those things he thinks are good, and cutting others to free up monies for his wars. He is willing to take $80 billion out of Medicare because the country can't afford it due to the enormous debt incurred by fighting a war; however, he is willing to borrow against the futures of our grandchildren to spend twice that amount on a feel-good economic stimulus package.
It is not only Democrats that are spend-happy, looking at the last several administrations and which drove up deficits and which worked on reducing them.

Ya know, there's no one forcing the American people to take the rebate check they are doling out in May....
I don't know, but I'm pretty sure I won't be, just because I don't want to have to pay it back later....

Oh come on, you know better than that. How many people are REALLY not going to spend $600+ depending upon how many live in the house with the economy the way it is now? Most people in this country have no concept of economics, and how putting us further in debt as a country affects them directly. Most people won't think ahead about this being a "rebate" check and having to pay taxes on it as income.
Obviously the goal is having everyone that gets it spend it. Putting us more into debt and deflating the value of our money is of little concern to most people in this country that are just living day to day.

I may not be hugely in debt, but I live in a depressed area in a crappy little one bedroom apartment and I have a daughter to take care of. 600 bucks is a good chunk of change for me.

After reading about the credit card debt, it strikes me that giving people more money probably wont increase their spending - they're already spending well above their means, and dont care if they have the cash to support it or not.
