My wife decided she would LOVE to have some nifty dolphin cursors. Well apperantly she grabbed a nifty little trojan or Virus. Here is what it does. As soon as you log onto the net it then immediatly disables her e-mail virus protection(we use AVG Free). It aslo prevents Ad-ware SE and Spybot from connecting to upgrade.. Third it prevents IE from access ANY webpage.. Most disturbing when you boot up the comp you get this error

Error Loading: c:\progra~1\newdot~1\newdot~1.DLL
Module not found.

Here is my HiJACK This copy of stuff runnig at startup on this machine...
can anyone see the trojan/ad-ware fucking stuff up?

My wife decided she would LOVE to have some nifty dolphin cursors.

I read that, and knew some bad shit was about to go down.

Ok, off the top of my head, the disabled AV and bad .HOSTS file are a signature of the AGO/GAO/PolyBot variants, and they're prety common.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\Updreg.exe

That's scary. The only known process that owns that name would be a Creative Labs update program, and wouldn't be in %systemroot%. It might be your bad-boy; but you do seem to have other Creative Labs files running. Things sitting in %systemroot% that aren't windows components are scary.

But, what frightens me the most is this...

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [New.net Startup] rundll32 C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~1.DLL,NewDotNetStartup

New Dot Net = EVIL. You might have this on purpose (doubtful), but please for the love of god, get rid of it. http://cexx.org/newnet.htm It's why you're broken --

Also suspicious...

Hmm, if for some reason this doesn't get resolved, were you close to the suggested yearly reformat :/ ? Might be time to give it a thought.

Thanks Pali.. NewDot does seem to be the main culprit.... I am looking to the other couple yo mentioned as well. I appreciate it guys..

I'm sure it's all in the article, but NewDotNet serves as an IP-stack middle-man translating their bullshit "new" domains silently back to normal. If it breaks, you're entire IP stack can die with it :)

All clean now.. Thanks again Palomax. What a evil little program. Wifey has promised no more "cute cursors".

Bah, I whore out my tech-savy for REP!

Seriously though, no problem. Minor broken computer mysteries are the filler between my real problems at work. Keep the day interesting.

You must spread reputation around before giving it to palimax again :(
